Inconsistent Solid Feeding

Long story short, my husband has been staying home with my son while I went back to work after maternity leave and he has been job hunting. Baby boy is on solids and formula now but when I go to work 4 days of the week, my husband isn’t good at giving the solids so my son only eats a solid meal at dinner when I come home. The days I don’t work he’s eating 2 solid meals and snacks and loves it. Now my husband finally has been trying but it would be more of the teething snacks or frozen sliced bananas while I’m at work. I say all this to say, how much solid meals should an almost 9 month old be eating at this point? Baby loves loves food but my husband finds feeding him anything other than a bottle takes time and energy from focusing on job hunting and studying.

My almost 9 month old eats 3 solid meals a day. Your husband can find 5-10 minutes a day to feed him solids. It can even be a puree!

Maybe try meal prepping for him. Like fruit or vegetables so it’s easier. Also just have him share his lunch which is easy.

Almost exact same situation here. I tell myself solids mainly just at dinner is ok because the doctor says until 1 year all nutrition needs should still come from breast milk and formula and solids is more “practice” and skill development. But who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I have the food ready for him to do it and it’s mostly puree but I’ll suggest the feed him what he’s eating. That’s a good idea. Thanks for the assurance that one meal a day is good

Also if he find the puree takes to long maybe think of using a silicone pouch ?

I’ve always been scared of the pouches (idk why lol) but that’s a good idea. I’ll test it out today

You can use a reusable one vs the store bought ones

My 9 month old doesn't eat solids at all

He has his 9months appt in a few weeks! I’m gonna ask for ideas too! Thanks everyone

Our pediatrician said that by 9 months she wants to see our girl eating 3 solid meals

Feeding a baby does take a lot of time. Especially spoon feeding. My baby tends to get fussy and takes a lot of time to eat. If he’s busy and finds solids time consuming, he can do 2 spoons of food and mix it with butter or a healthy fat like olive oil. This way you don’t have to take a long time spoon feeding and the calorie needs are met. Examples: 2 spoons of zucchini purée and olive oil would be around 100 calories at least.

My baby is 8 months almost 9 months. She eats breakfast and dinner.

@Nathalie that’s very interesting and makes sense! Will try that! Thank you
