I could breastfeed, but I have been just pumping!
I exclusively pump so I need a bottle around anytime I go out. Our diaper bag has an insulated pouch and I'll put a bottle of milk in there with an ice pack to keep it cool. Luckily my baby isn't terribly picky when it comes to cool milk, but if I have access I might run the bottle under some warm/hot water. I'm an over-preparer too, so I'll also have a bottle with a portion of formula and a separate water bottle on hand just in case. I was so grateful to have the extra when my car unexpectedly broke down and my outing took far longer than expected!
Also, I invested in some portable breast pumps that I always take with me along with an extra clean bottle. Even if I don't need to pump to feed him, if I become engorged while we are out it's a big relief to be able to plug the yitties in while I'm driving to have them empty by the time we get home. (The pumps I have have an automatic shut off after 20 mins so I'm comfortable using them while driving since I won't need to fiddle with them.)
Since you are pumping, do you have a wearable pump? Go to the zoo!! Use a wearable pump and pump on the go. Then fill a bottle and feed. I’m breastfeeding and took my three month old to the zoo today and just breastfed on a bench when needed, but the zoo had nursing pods available if I had wanted!
I do have a wearable pump!
If you are pumping make sure you have manual pumps, and bonus bring a battery pack charger so you can charge your pumps if you need too. Storing milk; have a cooler bag with some ice packs for your milk baggies. A shampoo travel container of dish soap so you can rinse your bottles. Gallon waters so you can rinse them and fills your cup! 🤣 (or if your doing formula) That’s what I did when I’d take my son out all day when I was breastfeeding. Once he switched to formula it was more comfortable for me. But I did walk around the zoo pumping plenty of times haha
@Lili this! Even when doing small grocery trips I always pack EXTRA because I think well what if my car breaks down for some reason, what if I get a flat, what if I get in an accident what if, what if. You never know how your day is gonna go! But you do know your babies need supplies!
I’m out 3 days a week with my boy from like 11am-8pm! Diaper bag, diapers, 4 sets of clothes, blanket, burp rags, ziplock bags, make a bottle right when you leave , ur babe will most likely fall asleep on the car ride to the zoo - then feed when wakes and then I also take a thermos with boiling hot water and 2 water bottles - breast fed bottles I would take 3 if you don’t want to pump and you can pump on the way home (not sure how often your pumping) if ur doing it every 3 hours while he eats. If you have insulated area in bag great keep with ice packs or you can always use frozen bags and just keep them by the time to use probably thawed and you have the thermis if still to cold. Also if you do formula too add and mix with breast milk or just formula solo and mix with thermos water and bottled so it’s not too hot! You’ve got this!
I use the mom cozy breast milk cooler it holds 22 oz and keeps cool for 24 hours !! Take pumps in case you need more ᵕ̈
Do you breastfeed? I got a cover from Amazon so I could breastfeed in my car or somewhere kind of secluded and I also got wearable pumps so I sometimes will pump in the car and then have the bottle with me for when my baby is hungry but they have to eat within 2 hours I believe before it goes bad at room temperature from what I’ve read.
