I don’t know if this is helpful but I only worked 5.5 months at my current job (full time) before going on maternity and I was able to get the 12 weeks PFML for childbirth and 12 additional weeks PFML for bonding!
Yes absolutely! PFML is based off earnings in the past 4 quarters. Not time, like FMLA is. I took a whole quarter off in between jobs at the beginning of my pregnancy, and still got PFML because I made 30 or 40 times (I don’t remember what the requirement is) my weekly benefit amount in the past 4 full quarters!
Check your company's policy. My company personally wants us to be there a year before qualifying for PFML
Yes. Just like the other girl said I was at my job for five months before applying for leave and was also able to get 12 weeks of recovery from childbirth and 12 weeks for bonding time paid. As long as you made enough in the other quarters you’ll be fine. There is a calculator on the website that you can calculate how much your weekly benefit amount will be. the first week is unpaid. So if you can save at least one week of PTO so that you’ll be covered.
Use your current jobs tax ID number when filling out the form
@Sarah FMLA and PFML aren’t the same. FMLA is the company, PFML is the state. Your company can’t control you taking PFML
@Sara I'm pointing this out because I just had this conversation with my company about PFML lol. At the end of the day your company does have a say. Called the state and they said the same thing to me 🤷🏽♀️
Yes. Absolutely should be able to
Hey all, happy to help anyone with these questions. My career is in leave/disability compliance. FMLA is the federal statute/law. To qualify for FMLA, regardless of what company you work for, you have to worked for the company for 12 months and 1250 hours in that year. You also have to work within a 75 mile radius of 50 or more employees. FMLA is unpaid job protection for 12 weeks. The state of Massachusetts PFML is very different. It is not based on the amount of hours or time you have worked for the company, but is instead based on how much you have earned in the state of Massachusetts over the last four quarters. The only say a company has on your leave is 1) if they have a private plan instead of the state plan and 2) if you want to take bonding on a reduced schedule. Other than that, your doctor determines your disability/recovery, which can be up to 20 weeks in MA BUT you can’t have more than 26 weeks total of leave. Feel free to message me privately with questions.
Yes you’ll be covered! I work 2 jobs and originally didn’t think I’d get paid with my part time job but I still did. It was a pleasant surprise
Yes! You’ll need to show 4 quarters of earnings in the date before you request, and I think it’s $6,300 for the past year to qualify, they check your SSN to see the earnings so the other employer will show.
