Shein.

My MIL is buying baby clothes and items from shein… she showed me the dresses, they are plastic material and see through, she has also bought dummy clips, I worry if these are even baby safe? The quality isn’t great from shein and I worry if anything comes apart and baby puts it in her mouth and chokes. Am I being extra? If not how do I go about this? Xxx

No, I'd be the same. Plus, I'd be worried about it being made with slave labour...

I second Paulina. I wouldn't buy anything from them for ethical reasons (aware that some other brands aren't that great either) but I also have doubts about them passing UK/EU standards- they have to in order to be sold here but I wonder how regulated it really is.

@Vittoria you'd be surprised how few safety standards there are for baby products in general! And they probably don't bother with them anyway. They make enough profit to absorb an occasional fine

I also boycott Shein, Primark, etc. I'd ask her to avoid buying anything from those stores and just explain why.

Personally, the only items I’ve used from Shein are party decorations & garden lights. Cheap & cheerful, out the way from daily use indoors. In terms of clothes - especially baby clothes, or baby essentials, it’s a big no no from me. There’s far too many sources that discourage their unfair child worker conditions, underpaying labour, plus excess amounts of harmful lead traces found in their clothes. I’ve stopped shopping from there now as it doesn’t sit right with me. If I get clothes that aren’t suitable for my little man as he has very sensitive skin so I’m careful what he can & can’t wear, they go into a big bag of unwanted clothes which are currently in the attic waiting to be dealt with (forgotten) 🤷🏻‍♀️🫣

i think clothing wise just primark is fine cause they’ll wear it once or twice before it stops fitting anyway, i don’t personally like shein for myself so wouldn’t buy child’s stuff on there. as for dummy clips, that would be a no for me, i think they look cute but they’re not safe at all and not really necessary, just invest in some glow in the dark dummies

I personally would be annoyed, most baby clothes you buy in store are cotton especially for younger babies. I wouldnt want them in anything that could give them a bad reaction x

Personally, I’d never buy/use anything from Shein. Apart from the ethical issues, the products, especially clothes, are sprayed for transport. I wouldn’t want my child using anything that has been coated in toxic chemicals.
