We followed her queues. She was on 3 meals a day a mother or so into weaning. She's a huge foodie! She still got breastfeeding milk in-between meals and just after too. Now she's 11 months old she's on 3 meals and 1 maybe 2 snacks a day and breast milk only at sleep times. We really did just follow what she was asking from us and the HV supported us in following her queues. Food is fun before one but it's also important to follow what baby is telling you
Thank you both! I am breast feeding an hour before feeding solids and then offered again before a nap. I may keep it to two meals for another week or so and then up it if he wants. If his naps are all over the place it makes it tricky to do 3 anyway but think we are heading that way x
Keep feeding if he wants it! I weaned my prem boy at 4.5 months and he was on 3 meals at 6 months then snacks aswell from 7 months! He’s now 11 months and eats like a trooper it’s amazing to see. Don’t worry about them dropping milk it’s completely fine and normal as long as they are still gaining weight. Just introduce calcium and dairy into the solids like yoghurt and cheese to help substitute the bottles (HV’s advice). My boys been on 2 8oz bottles since just before 9 months and now he’s on 1 6oz and 1 8oz x
My baby wasn’t prem so I can’t comment on the side but I also have a great eater. He was on 3 meals a day by 8 months and barely any milk (probably 2 feeds a day). He was very happy and healthy!
Our health visitor told us to drop another bottle (formula) even though we'd already dropped some so she is only on a bottle when she wakes up in the morning and before bed at night. I said the same about milk being their main nutrition and she said food before 1 is just for fun doesn't apply if they're eating this well 🙈 I've made sure to give her a multivitamin every day so she's getting hopefully everything she needs between the formula, vitamin and her food
@Sophie wow! How old is your LO?
Ah sorry I meant to say she was 9 months on 24th and the health visitor was out 3 weeks ago.
The thing to remember is “food before 1 is just for fun.” That being said-if he wants to eat-feed him! Just remember to give him his breast milk first. That’s where his nutrition mainly comes from before 12 months. That way he’ll have the milk he needs first, then he’ll eat as much solid food as he likes! Also-don’t expect him to always eat this way. It absolutely will fluctuate and there’s nothing wrong with that!
