We recently did for spring break. Our longest flight was just under 2 1/2 hours. We had a layover with a shorter flight also. I made sure to try and keep him up beforehand as long as possible that way he would nap most of the flights. Mine is breast-fed, but I made sure to feed him at takeoff. He was either asleep or didn’t mind it when landing, but if you want, you can feed again during that time too. We took his three favorite toys and I bought tethers off of Amazon that way they wouldn’t fall on the floor. I wish I would’ve also brought paci clips too to attach them to him when the tethers didn’t have something to attach to.
I didn’t baby wear through security because I had to take his carrier, but I did have to take him out of it to go through. If you have to take a car seat too, I would get check that and get a bag for it.
i have a 5 month old and he’s been on 4 flights so far all 1-4 hrs long. baby wear through the airport, don’t bring stroller or anything with unless you absolutely need to. and try to feed during take off and landing. although they offer for you to get on first i ended up boarding towards the end so we had less time on the flight.
@Sierra sorry by carrier do you mean car seat? And you are saying to gate check?
@Mary Grace don’t bring a stroller on my trip? I can’t imagine not having a stroller where we’re going but wow 4 flights that’s amazing!
@Kristin I was very nervous too but then I figured there’s no time like the present! It’ll be a learning experience and probably gets difficult as they become more mobile. I think you’ll be fine! :)
@Sierra thanks! Mine hardly naps more than 30 minutes :/ but I’ll try to keep him up! And tethers are a good idea
Yes, sorry! I call everything of his carrier because my three yr old has a big car seat 😅 But yes, I had to take the baby’s car seat and stroller. I hate checked both of those items and picked them up once we reached our final destination. It was just me with both kids so I used my little carrier to baby wear him onto the plane and during our layover.
Mine definitely takes some 30 minute naps too, but the humming on the airplane is like white noise so I think it actually helped to keep him asleep. He was a happy baby too for the most part until he heard another baby crying and got a little upset, but I just fed him again and he was OK. 😄
@Sierra lol no it’s ok!! Thanks so much we’re taking both too and gonna gate check
Last month, my 5-month-old daughter and I took an 11-hour flight. We brought the stroller to the aircraft door, which was quite convenient. Feeding the baby during takeoff and landing is important; our doctor also recommended this. She slept 9 hours during the flight :) Additionally, I advise bringing spare clothes for the baby.
Oh yes, what Yaprak said! Definitely bring a change of clothes for baby just in case and for you a shirt at least. I put mine in PJs to make sure he stayed warm thinking the plane would be cooler, but the airport was hot so I had to change him into a onesie and shorts.
@Maria my little one prefers to be worn and i prefer not to have a million things to tote around so i guess just preference! anytime we travel and im somewhere where holding him is too much i just wear him and he feels most comforted that way.
I flew by myself when my baby was almost 4 months old. Not sure what kind of stroller you have but we have the Doona and I kept him in there throughout the airport and checked it at the gate. I did not check my bag so I had my roller suitcase and the Doona and it went ok! I had no idea how I’d go to the bathroom if I was baby wearing but I also just don’t do that very much so maybe some other mommas will say it’s possible to pee while wearing them? Lol

yes we just went to Maui from California so a 5.5 hour flight with a 5.5 month old!!! I HIGHLY recommend buying them a seat if you can afford it so you can bring on their car seat… he stayed in it half the flight to sleep and play and towards the end of the flight i’d hold him in my lap then i would put him back in etc so it was nice to have your own space sometimes. as for ear pressure tbh he didn’t have an issue. we fed during takeoff but on the way back we didn’t do it and he was fine. he did have noise cancelling headphones just for take off bc the announcements can be kinda loud. the only thing that SUCKKKEDDD was diaper changes. if you can avoid it on the flight put on an overnight diaper beforehand and lots of diaper cream however he did poop both times so we had to change him mid flight and he hated it so much bc the small bathroom changing table was so hard and very loud and bumpy from the plane!
I’m soo nervous to fly with her 😭 but we did do a 16 hour road trip at 2 months old 😅
@Vivian we wanted to get him a seat but our car seat wasn’t aircraft certified and we couldn’t justify the cost of buying a new seat 😭 but good to know! I hope we don’t have to change him onboard bc I heard it’s hard.y fiancé bought noise cancelling headphones and I told him he was dramatic lol
My baby hates being worn so I carried him through security lol. He thought he was very special. My husband was able to deal with our carry on and stroller. I would’ve worn him if I was traveling alone. We went up to the gate desk an hour before our flight and they were happy to tag our stroller and car seat in advance. We also had noise cancelling headphones but baby didn’t seem interested so we didn’t use them. We thought it might help him fall asleep faster and maybe it would’ve but he still did eventually each flight. We fed him at takeoff but also needed a diaper change about an hour later each time. The attachment clips for toys and pacifier were a life saver! The nursing rooms in the airport are super nice if you just need a private place to relax with baby.
No but I’m following because traveling this summer with our then 8 month old and nervous!😬
