Look up hospital bag essentials on Google! I went by those lists and it was super helpful!
I agree with Megan. Some hospitals have baby diapers and wipes and if you’re planning to breast feed they have pumps for you. So do some research of the hospital you will be going to and look up at what they provide .
I way over packed for my first born and will not be doing that this time because lugging everything out including our little boy was hectic lol! My bag had comfy clothes to go home in and a robe to lounge in the postpartum ward I hated the hospital gowns but used it for my delivery, buy the Frida mom peri bottle I loved it was better than the ones the hospital give you! Travel size shampoo conditioner body wash, deodorant, hair brush, I didn’t pack makeup but if you wanna doll yourself up makeup, pregnancy pillow!! My own grippy socks, slippers and shower sandals. Babies bag had a few different size outfits, mittens, swaddles, binki, going home outfit. my hospital provided diapers wipes and all postpartum essentials so I saved all ours for home. Then my husband had his bag and we had another bag of snacks and drinks!
Oh and a small fan because I was dying with all the hormones taking over while preparing for birth!
This is my 3rd. Here's my list :) -Button up pajamas -Robe -Postpartum pants/loose shirt -flip flops and bathroom toiletries (shampoo, brush, toothbrush, deoderant) -snacks -phone charger -headphones -music/labor Playlist (if you want to listen to music during delivery) -nursing pillow -pump bra (I had to pump to get my milk to come in sooner during my last delivery. The hospital supplied the pump, but I brought a pump bra to hold the parts in place so I could have my hands free) Diaper bag: -Going home outfit -Newborn zipper pajamas (most of the time, my baby was just in a diaper and swaddle for easy skin to skin contact, but I still brought one pair of pajamas) -Outfit/swaddle for newborn pictures (my hospital does newborn pictures, so I brought clothes for baby/husband/myself if I want us to wear anything specific) -the hospital had swaddles, but I brought some of my own that I loved -Purse You don't need any diapers/postpartum items as hospitals normally supply all nessasary items
Ask what’s provided at the hospital. I packed my bag but barely used anything cuz it was painful standing and walking after labor. I recommend: Charger, body wash, hairbrush, coconut water or Gatorade ( since you’ll feel dehydrated), clothes for you and the baby
Also 2-3 tote bags to bring stuff home since they give you free diapers and baby things
@Lili oooh, I'm adding the fan to my list! It was so hot in the hospital room when the sun would hit it during my last delivery
Snacks too because I gave birth at night and kitchen was closed. I was starving 😭😭😭
If I were packing for the hospital, I would bring -pump + pumping bra -nipple cream + silverettes -just 1 or 2 outfits (you’ll be in a hospital gown almost the entire time most likely) -headphones and Bluetooth speaker -snacks -water bottle -baby bottle if you have a preferred one -one baby outfit (baby will be in diaper and blanket swaddle probably the whole hospital stay) -car seat And that’s it! Hospital should most likely provide everything else regarding toiletries for mom + baby.
I just packed babies bag last night. I’m 32 and 4. Haven’t packed mine yet but I’ll provide what I will be packing. Also, most hospitals have someone who comes around to take newborn pictures so I am over packing clothes for those! Baby boys bag: two bamboo blankets to swaddle him in, two wearable blankets, 4 bottoms, 3 short sleeve onesies, 3 long sleeve onesies, one going home outfit that is a onesie with attached shorts. 3 pairs of socks/mittens, 5 hats (again all of these just for cute pictures) then I have 2 burp clothes, 3 different paci’s for him to try, a couple free sample diapers and a pack of free sample wipes (only a couple cause we’ll get a bunch from the hospital). I’m bringing my pump and pump gear like sample balm and such. Two bottles we got for free (MAAM and Phillips Advent), though I don’t plan on him using bottles for the first few weeks as I want to exclusively BF but just in case you never know. A folder for important paperwork, a wooden announcement for pics
For my bag my mom got me a labor gown for fun, two comfy outfits one of which I could use for a found home outfit. Nursing bras, long charger, water bottle, bathroom basics, make up, nursing pillow and my own blanket, non slip socks/slippers upsidedown peri bottle, adult diapers cause those are more comfy than what they got. And then car seat!
@Jessica they keep it so stuffy in there too so definitely recommend like one of the stroller fans you can wrap the legs around where ever!! Total life saver for me!!
Have you asked your obgyn or midwife for a packing list? They typically have one based on what the hospital you will be giving birth at does or doesn't provide.
