EPIDURAL OR GAS + AIR

Hi mamas. How did you labour? I want to go gas + air but after my anaesthetic review today the anaesthetist has got me wondering if an epidural is just easier and better? I am a high risk pregnancy only due to my pre-pregnancy BMI. Thank you!

Hey I had a high BMI and I was induced on the Saturday went into active labour Sunday night and gave birth mid day on the Monday gas and air only I went into active labour with an open mind and said I’d use what ever I needed but managed okay with gas and air hope that helps x

I was on gas and air for 18 hours until I had to have an emergency C-section which then I needed the epidural x (57 BMI)

I had high bmi and pre-pregnancy hypertension, I had the epidural and hormone drip (I got induced) but my epidural stopped working on one side of my body. They adjusted it slightly but it still didn’t work, I was in a lot of pain but they didn’t offer me gas+air while I was waiting for it to work. I ended up opting for a c-section because they offered to take the epidural out and then re-site it but I was worried it would fail again, so c-section was my next option and I’m glad I chose it. X

I did just gas and air for 12 hours until my emergency c-section. It was hard but if I have another pregnancy I’d still opt for just gas and air

I had gas and air and it was waste of time, ended up having an epidural and honestly best thing I’d done! I also had hormone drip and it just wasn’t working, was 2cm from 7.30am - 8pm (9cm) … I was contracting at 2cm as if I was 9cm around 10am so my midwife advised to have epidural, and thank god she did! Waters broke 3am Saturday 15th June , my girl came into the world at 00:18 Monday 17th June

Hi, I have a high BMI and I have done birth’s with both.. my first with an epidural as I stressed myself out too much and my second with gas and air which I did find a little helpful. You will know exactly what to do in the moment. I don’t know if this is your first birth but my biggest advice to anyone is try and stay as calm as you can, a lot easier said than done but it makes your contractions feel 10x worse. Good luck with everything! X

I also have high bmi, had just gas and air with both my births. Recent one was a water birth and it helped with the pain a lot. The gas and air is great! X
