4 months eating cereal

Baby girl turned four months on the first. Her appointment was yesterday and the doctor said that it was OK to start feeding her liquid solids. Also, it was OK to give her 2 to 4 ounces of water a day with solids. I started her on oatmeal and breastmilk today. She enjoyed it although she still prefers to nurse, which is OK because that is her main food. Anyone else starting four month olds on cereal/solids?

Imo: Doctors are there to see if baby is healthy/medications, not to give advice on what to do with baby at home or how to parent.

She so beautiful! đź’•

Our pediatrician also gave us the green light to start solids 2 weeks ago (our baby turned 4 months on 24th of March) and we started this week. Have only given him pureed avocado (mixed with breast milk to make it more liquid consistency) and it's been a positive experience so far. Our baby was always interested in food and our pediatrician checked him and confirmed that his neck was strong enough to sit with support and also recommended some sitting exercises. The updated guidance we got is that introducing early can reduce the risk of food allergies, but in all honesty we were excited to introduce solids because of how interested he has been in our food.

@Divya yes she noticed how well she was holding her neck whole sitting on my lap. I agreed with giving in liquid form. Today was the first day it went well.

Where I am from they’ll give cereal to babies at 1 month on the bottle so I am doing great at 4 months.

@Cherisma thank you!!!

Omg! That's awesome! I feel hopeful now for my baby trenches. What made your pediatrician say that? I need to start looking for signs. ✍️

@AJ Baby was sitting on my lap when the doctor came in. The doctor said “she holding up her head really well”. She said to strap her into the high chair and feed liquidy fruits and veggies only. Oats are ok too feed too. She said 1 new food every three days. Then mix the old foods for combinations. Pay attention to allergic reactions. Mix foods with breastmilk. She said she find that by 5 months babies are very hungry. So starting now slowly is ok.

Breastmilk or formula too.

@Divya Hi! Could you please share some of the sitting exercises? TIA

Basically place your baby in a sitting position on your lap and try to get them to stay sitting on their own by wrapping your hands around their chest (without actually touching them only to keep them from falling over). The closest I could find is https://youtube.com/shorts/ztSzhj8Q4ho?si=LZO1KoJxpmQypaos

So my oldest 2, I started with baby oatmeal at 3 months, and they were perfectly fine. I would have done the same with my youngest 2, but they were both premies(28 weeks and 31 weeks), so that milestone is based on corrected age, not birth age.
