Pregnant at 44....am I mad?

I had my first baby at 41 and he is wonderful, healthy and just the greatest kid to be around. I thought I was menopausal and couldn't get pregnant again (my first was a total surprise). I always wanted another, and now exactly 3 years since I first found out I was pregnant, I find myself pregnant again! I'm too scared to get excited because of my age and wonder if I'm mad to do this again. Surely it can't't be another relatively easy pregnancy, birth and recovery with a healthy happy baby... I'm not that lucky for it to happen twice.

Congratulations I had my Little girl at 45 after 17 years of trying you are blessed

Following as I had my first at 42, he's 7 months now and hoping for a second one ... I don't think you are mad, I totally get it!

I had two easy pregnancies also around that age! You’ll be totally fine. If you had an easy one the first time around, there is no reason to worry this time.

I had my first pregnancy at 32 (gave birth at 33) and the second successful at 44 (gave birth at 45). A part from the gestational diabetes I had to manage, I had no issues during the second pregnancy. On the contrary, I didn’t put on almost any weight and was super active. I was also anxious but I was told by doctors that, as regards the baby, the thing that increases with age are mainly the chromosomal anomalities but this you can check early in pregnancy. If that is fine, normally the baby has practically the same probability of having health problems as any other baby. Yes, gestational diabetes is more common at that age (and some other things in pregnancy) but with good medical follow up it should be manageable. Congratulations!!!

I just gave birth at 45 and had a wonderful pregnancy.

Thank you for the reassurance ladies. I really appreciate it. With my first, I was seen so soon after self referral to the maternity unit and I even had an early scan within 2 weeks. This time round I have to wait a full month before my first appointment. So I guess a month of being anxious it is! I really want to enjoy it this time round, but I feel my self even more scared than the first time. But these stories are lovely to hear from you all. Thank you. Xxx

Menopausal in ur 40s lol sis please. A female can get pregnant for PRE puberty till POST menopausal. So all women in all stages of life are at risk of pregnancy no matter the age. Jus because the risk is statistically low doesn’t mean u can’t get pregnant. everyone shud have sex at their own risks. With that being said I just want say congratulations mama. Every child is blessing bt sometimes the timing is literally when we least expect it. I wish u the best of luck

I have read that women who have babies after 35 and into their 40s actually live longer because their babies keep them young and they want to be there for the long haul :) I think you are only as old as you feel! Plus 41 and now 44 are not that different (medically speaking) so I think you are good! Congratulations! I hope everything goes well for you

Had my girl on my 40th birthday and would LOVE a second but it’s not happening yet. Congrats 🥳

I had my first at 40 and just had my second three years later at 43. Both healthy pregnancies, great births and healthy babies so it can and does happen. There is such an unhelpful pervasive narrative about mothers in their 40s, their journey to motherhood and what happens after that. What would say as a mother of an almost 4 year old and a 9 month old at 44 is that it is SO much easier second time round. There is none of the angst that I found dominated my journey with my first. I do ache more, I attend the odd baby group with my daughter and am definitely more physically aware of being older this time. It’s such a blessing though. Wishing you lots of excellent things with baby number 2!

I just had a baby at 44. Congrats- you are not mad, you are blessed!

Just randomly seen this post in my feed, but just want to say I had my baby at 39 and thought I'd be the oldest woman in the mum and baby groups and classes I attend and I'm nowhere near the oldest one! Several in their 40s and a few of them are 47-48 having their first babies! Congratulations 🥳❤️

Aweosome well done 🙌💜

You are blessed! First baby at 41 via IVF and second was a surprise at 42! I will say, second baby was much harder on the body, more tired, more kicking, less sleeping . But you can do it!

I don’t think you’re mad at all. I had my first child at 21 and honestly didn’t think I was able to have more. I’m now starting all over again at 41 and will be 42 when I deliver. Best of wishes to you!

If you are mad then I am to! I had my first 3 in my 20s and am now 32 weeks pregnant with my 4th and I am 45! I will say I have been way more tired with this pregnancy than I remember being in my 20s, but other than that so far so good. I’m excited to do it again and I think I will be way more chilled than I was in my 20s! Hoping to savour every moment! Congrats to you !

I had my first at 39, second at 41 and now have a 10 week old at 43. All easy pregnancies. All conceived without any fertility treatment. I had to have an emergency section for Mt first baby, as she was stuck, but other than that, no complications.

Had my first (twins) at 45yo

Just wanted to say reading this thread made my day! I am TTC my second at 40 (I’ll be 41 this year). Baby dust to all 🫶🫶🫶

Had my l.g at 40. Only problem with being older was the risk of gestational diabetes an higher b.ps. otherwise there's no problem. End of the day regardless of age as long as these babies are shown love, care an warmth who cares for age, congratulations 🎊
