Stat maternity pay

Ladies what are you roughly taking home if you are getting the £187 a week (if your pay is higher than that) I get 6 weeks full pay and then onto Stat maternity pay.. just wondered roughly what it would be a month and how you survive haha x

Turns out I've already paid enough taxes the rest of the year, so I'm taking the full £800 (on a 31-day month, excluded £14 for pension). I'm lucky that my husband makes decent money, I put about £450 towards house bills and I keep £350 for my bills and other expenses. I had also put away some money (~£300) for when I have extra expenses, like petrol or clothes.

The only way I survived was saving up before hand. I saved £5000 so I still paid my half of the bills each month. I don’t know how we would’ve survived without saving x

I just don’t get how £750 a month is justified by the government 😂🫣

I’ve been getting a tax rebate with my pay which is bi-weekly which is a little extra on top so I don’t feel totally screwed🙈 other than that I saved some money while working and also put some away during the 6 weeks 90% pay. Other than that I sell bits on Vinted which can pay off if you have a fair bit! Easier said than done but try not to worry too much, you just cut your cloth to suit x

I’m Self-employed so will only get the £187 per week… it’s absolutely shocking and is going to be a massive pay decrease so I’ve been saving as much as I can for the past 6 months and am working my butt off until baby arrives (saved over £6K now)… will probably end up going back to work after a few months to get through xx

Try working out the benefits calculator on the gov website. My baby isn't here yet but I worked it out based on my earnings and it says I'd be entitled to universal credit on top of my maternity pay. But only once I go to statutory maternity pay x

Yeah I thankfully get longer on full/80/50 but Christ I'm not sure how I'm going to survive when it gets to it. I'm putting in a claim for UC as I'm renting they'll help out. I may take a payment break for 2 months on my car. My pension contribution is stupid high too so I'm dreading it 😔. Even then a conservative MP said last year that maternity stat pay was "going too far"... On what planet mate?!?!

I’m a teacher and don’t think I get anything extra unfortunately to the stat pay wah :( just the 187 a week. Rubbish x

@Marissa I did this also, saved up a chunk of money and still paid half everything. My husband is self employed and makes good money but I didn’t want the extra pressure for him. I think the way way is to save before xxx

@incognito I also work in education, benefits calculator spat out I'm entitled to something... Try it x

I’ve only got 2.5k saved 💀 I can probably get it to 3.5 though by June I guess then just hope we survive
