Help! Sick in-laws came over to stay 😩
Hi all. I could really do with some advice. I live abroad and my husband’s brother, his wife and two kids (10 & 13 years old) travelled over this week to visit us and baby. Thankfully, they’re staying in an AirBnB, but when they came to visit their 13 year old has a bad cold/cough, and was coughing & sneezing up a storm - without covering his mouth no less.
He casually informed me shortly afterwards that he has a cold (which was fairly obvious at that point). His parents still passed our 9-week old baby over to him to hold, and made no comments when their son would sneeze or cough without covering his mouth! He would also frequently put his fingers in baby’s hands to hold - which really made me cringe.
I’m not one for confrontation and I don’t want to make them feel unwelcome since they’ve traveled all the way here and still have two weeks left of their stay to go! But I find it so inconsiderate of them to do this, and don’t know what to do…
Ah sorry. It’s such an awkward position to be in. We have international family and been in similar situation before when they’ve come to stay over.. I would ask your husband to say something, going forward. Like hey we noticed there is sickness, we know you want to cuddle baby but can you please not hold him as he is not used to big germs yet. I do get especially worried when it’s a cough/ chesty. Easier said than done, but try not to stress about what has happened, and just prevent it going forward. Either that or baby wear a lot 😂 x
