I am a TA and also 23 weeks pregnant. I have been told by HR that if I don’t come back after maternity leave then technically they could ask for all the money back but they said to me that they don’t agree with it and would never ask a mother to pay it back. So definitely speak to your HR department to see where they stand with making you pay it back. It’s best to be open and honest with them. You don’t have to tell them that you’re not coming back until like half way through your maternity leave. Sorry that was long but hope it helps.
@Phoebe thank you! That’s super helpful. At what point would you tell them you’re not coming back during your maternity? I’m assuming your notice period is 4 weeks, much like mine
Yes, you will have omp that you would have to pay back if you took it and don’t return to work for 13 weeks after maternity leave usually. Check your contract though, if you are a council school hr should be able to give you all the details of your maternity entitlement and you have the option of not taking the extra pay. I wouldn’t resign though until after your mat leave or nearing the end of it for your notice period
