Blood pressure and anxiety

As someone who generally finds hospitals and medical settings uncomfortable, I have always found my blood pressure to be high when having it taken. This was the case at my midwife appointment this afternoon and I’m now down in MAU for them to monitor it just as a precaution. Whenever I have taken it at home in the past, it’s been fine. Anyone else have similar experiences when having their Bp taken?

It’s called white coat syndrome. My partner has health anxiety and high blood pressure so he deals with this a lot! Make sure you tell them that you find those environments stressful and that has had an affect on your blood pressure in the past - they’ll be aware of it as a problem and will be able to act/advise accordingly

Yes this was a recurring issue for me throughout pregnancy. Had multiple trips to MAU for high BP. Eventually was given a monitor to monitor my BP at home and put under the BP clinic. All white coat for me.

@Emma thank you for replying !! I’ve now been referred to the hypertension clinic and put on medication 😫 will be trying the home readings though for my own peace of mind!
