Schedule/Doing things

I’m having a hard time figuring out a schedule and getting out of the house to do things, i.e. lunch out (not dinner yet- would need sitter and bedtime is hard), a coffee, meet friends, walk in the park, etc. (all with my LO) but find it so hard to get out the door or figure out how to time it. Would love any tips!

I would recommend for the first few times, to not plan it, or to not try to establish a routine! Just focus on the now and what you’re doing that hour or two later, once you get the hang of it, a routine will come! That’s how it is for me, for having two under two, at first, I just said I’m going for a walk or the library and now after a few time, I’ve been able to establish a routine out of it

I try to go immediately after changing and feeding. I intentionally go to places that I consider baby friendly; quieter/more spacious/casual restaurants. Walks in the park can be a good start especially if your baby is likely to sleep in the stroller. I always take a bottle with me/change of clothes just in case.

hi 👋🏼 sahm mom of 2 who doesn’t like to stay home here! i follow a schedule that i found on tik tok that really works for me monday- movement monday - get out go grocery shopping prepare for the week so i also do laundry tuesday- treat yourself go get a little something for you (starbucks, a new book etc) wednesday- with someone wednesday this is the day you plan to spend with someone or i like to go to the library and interact w other moms thursday- tidy thursday this is when you’ll set aside the whole day for cleaning to have a relaxing weekend friday- fun friday go do something fun (park, picnic, library, shopping whatever) it really helps to try to stick to a schedule. as for timing i always try to get out as soon as possible & you always want to change, feed, put baby in car seat & go this way you have the most time before needing to feed them again. usually my two month old will sleep while out. also baby wearing will make everything so much easier! hope this helps :)

I would try something that doesn’t have specific timing first, like a walk or running errands. Time yourself to see how long it takes to get out of the house. That will give you a better gauge when you are having to leave to get to a scheduled thing

I base everything around my babies feeding and nap schedule that’s what seems to work for us for the most part.

I struggle with the same thing! But it’s helped to start with doing things close to home - a walk or grocery run. And I agree with everyone else, feed and diaper change right before you go. I’ve found that for running errands, it’s best to get out early and walks I’ll do during his second or third daytime nap.

Do you have just baby at home? I work from home and also need to run errands and generally leave for stuff. I can’t plan a consistent time that “fits” him since his naps are whenever he needs them still. So, I make sure that he is recently fed, changed, and burped and then out we go! You just have to get out there and do it. I breastfeed in the car and do diaper changes in the car/barhrooms as I’m out and about. It’s not always easy, he doesn’t like his car seat. At this age, any drive over 10 min usually results in a nap.

@Brooklyn is your LO home with you while working from home?

@Leighann yes my 3 month old is home with me while I work. But my 20 month old is at daycare full time. I plan to put the little one in daycare when he is 9 months. I do my best during the day to fit work in chunks and then often spend time early morning or after bedtime to get some uninterrupted task time. My goal is to get 25 hours a week, but it’s challenging. I luckily have a very flexible job so I just need to get the work done, not be on the clock all day.
