Picky eating

Is it possible to have a picky eater at 6 months? Started weaning at 4.5 months and tried fruit and veg however she hates vegetables to the point she actually gags and spits/sicks it up. She absolutely loves loves any fruit. I tried some of the meals with veg in and is the same situation ; any suggestions on how to help. I’ve also tried at least 10 times. Worried she isn’t going to get the correct nutrients she needs.

Totally normal, you have to try more than 10 times I got told by my health visitor, find options she likes, my little one doesn’t like sweetcorn or peas but a vegetable finger she loves ! Hide the veggies. I also do homemade panckaes w fruit mushed up so she can’t tell, and still offer cut up strawberries etc she has grew to love veg and fruits now, where as at the beginning of weaning she hated them and only liked baby snacks mostly x

Gagging and spitting at this age is normal. at 6 months food is play and is just to explore. Introducing fruit early actually encourages this situation because of course they will choose a sweet food over a vegetable. That's just human behaviour but you have to encourage the vegetables and savoury over any fruit stuff at all. I had a nursery nurse round to help with weaning last week and from her and my HV I was told not to introduce fruit at all for a little while when I start weaning. So we are starting next week but she absolutely will not be having fruit yet. As for picky eating early on, she said to include food they will eat but always accompany it with food that they "don't like" so they are consistently exposed to it. Also, at 6 months ALL of their nutrition should still come from milk, so I would limit the fruit while you can and consistently introduce and expose her to vegetables and try different ones.

Weaning early probably didn’t help - this can cause digestive issues, stomach stretching and allergies. She will be getting all of her nutrients from her milk still food before one is just for fun - but if they actually eat it fab xx
