Advice?

Going to be attempting to make a cake like this for a family member’s birthday! Any advice on how to achieve this look? I know the black is probably applied with an icing spatula but any advice or techniques that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

I would make the black icing a little bit thinner so it’s easier to spread thin without taking off the white, but be careful not to make it too thin because it will drip /run down the cake.

If you’ve never worked with black frosting, go with god, sister 🙏🏼 Because it’ll never be me again. Not with all the YouTube videos in the works.

@AmyB I’ve made black frosting before but never layered it like this 😂

@Grace that makes sense, thank you!

Could you replicate a similar look with edible paint or black coloured fluid icing by painting it on?

I’ve heard you can make a nice black frosting with black cocoa instead of dye. I haven’t personally done it, but I have made dark grey frosting with black gel dye and I couldn’t believe how much of the coloring was needed just to get grey.

If it starts to tilt definitely use the sticks to keep it upright! And with the pearls add a dash of glitter to a bowl or container of them and shake it up
