Rude comments

I recently enrolled my daughter in hula and Tahitian dance . Husbands family basically said it’s inappropriate . I think they’re so uncultured and naive . I don’t appreciate their comments and sexualizing a child . Am I being unreasonable ?

But if sd took an interest in the dance they’d say it’s the cutest thing ever . I hate the double standard

What they say or think doesn't matter as long as your daughter is happy. If they're going to be so negative then they don't need to be around in my opinion

@Lorelei and Chy +1 +1 I know I just couldn’t help but get really upset at their comments :/

Absolutely not. It’s a form of art. And if it’s your daughter’s culture it’s literal telling of stories, at least that is my understanding.

@Jesselee that’s absolutely it . And I find it very offensive that they would make such rude comments about a culture they aren’t even trying to learn or understand .

I think you’re within your right to educate their ignorance & also to stop sharing literally anything lol. I would be like, Ope! Outer circle, sucks to suck.

Not being unreasonable at all! If that is her culture, do what you want bc that is YOUR daughter and not theirs. Also, that is who she is at the end of the day, if they don’t respect that, then they don’t respect you or her and where she came from. Hopefully your husband is saying something to his family about this since it is his family making the comments.

I wouldn’t give a damn what they say or think, especially for a child they have no relation to.
