Dawes?

How horrendous is the name Dawes? 😅 It means “son of David”, and my husband is David. So I think that would be a random bonus. I like that it is sort of unique without being superfluous? Simple one syllable, but a bit unexpected. We currently have a Warren and Clyde. My husband prefers Dawson with the option of nicknaming Dawes, but I have a cousin named Dawson it just gives me a completely different impression than Dawes. But what I’ve seen from googling, most people are not fans of Dawes as a first name. 🤪

I had a student named Dawson at one point but I've never heard Dawes. I don't think it's horrible!

I don't think it's horrible. Never heard of it so it's quite unique but not horrible.

I don’t think it’s horrendous, it has a similar vibe to Warren & Clyde to me. Do you like it? When I googled my daughter’s name, I saw a lot of people on reddit and mumsnet saying it’s horrible, it’s too trendy, it sounds dumb, it sounds generic, it’s an off brand version of better names, it sounds old lady-ish, it sounds baby-ish… I nearly changed my mind but I loved it, nothing else felt right, and now all the time people compliment her name. No one has told me it’s a stupid, generic, trendy elderly baby name yet 😂 So if you like it, if your husband likes it, ignore the comments online ♥️

Never heard of Dawes. How do you pronounce it?

I like how it has the same vibe as your other sons' names. I say go for it

I like it. Goes with Warren and Clyde. I’d always go for a longer name with a short form though so I’d vote Dawson, Dawes for short

Not horrendous at all, I love the name Dawes and especially now I know this meaning behind it🤍 I also think Dawes ‘flows better’ with the names Warren and Clyde as opposed to Dawson but that’s just me

Kinda sounds like Dolls

I love Dawson with the nn being Dawes. I like Dawson, haha my partner is David too and I wanted Dawson as a middle name but he didn’t go for it.
