Need advice transitioning from bottle!

Calling allllll mamas! I’m trying to transition my 18 month old off of his Dr. Browns bottles for his milk. I stupidly cut bottles cold turkey thinking he would adapt to a sippy cup or straw cup for his milk with ease. Boy was I wrrrrrrong. He will drink any other liquid out of a straw cup or sippy cup with no problem. As soon as I put milk in any of those cups, he won’t even touch it. I’ve tried different temperatures for the milk and about a million different bottles thinking one would take but nothing. Trying to be consistent and not give in and bring the bottles back but I’m at a loss! Please help!!!!! 🫣

How many days have you given it? My girl also went a couple days or a week without milk during the transition because she was rejecting it in a straw cup. It didn’t last long and she eventually adjusted and now chugs from a straw cup. We transitioned at 16 months

@Cassie It’s been about a week with no bottle. We tried the Dr. Browns sippy cups last week and he would only drink an ounce and stop. No he is refusing them completely. ☹️

We also struggled with this, we only lasted two days without milk before we gave in and put him back on the bottle 😅

@Kelly I know this is so common but it’s a harder transition than I thought!!

I cut the bottles cold-turkey at 12 months (also, switched to whole milk on the same day cold-turkey) and he dropped to maybe 4-6 ounces a day for about a month or two. No way was I going to give in though. I made sure he had lots of diary and actually whole milk smoothies and eating cereal with milk (such a strange kid lol) seemed to be a hit. What helped was having certain kinds of straw cups for water and certain ones for milk. Grosmimi were the game changer for us (I also used Dr brown weighted straw bottles) and are the best so far. Basically, the easier to suck, the better. He’s now at maybe 10-14 ounces a day and he’s comfortable with that. I had to make a conscious decision to be zen about the whole thing and have my mantra be “he’ll drink what he drinks”.

@Shelby keep offering a cup and if he doesn’t drink he doesn’t drink. He’ll give in eventually. My girl loves straw cup
