Aspirin - shop bought

I was told at my 12 week scan I should start taking low dose aspirin (150mg per day) midwife said you can buy it at the pharmacy until the GP can issue. My problem is that I have bought it from Boots but the label says ‘do not take if pregnant’ it said it on all the different varieties of aspirin. Is this normal and still ok to take? Seems wrong! But what the midwife said

I was given 75mg dispersible asprin to take 2 of dissolved in water per day if that helps x

If your midwife says you need asprin she needs to prescribe it to you. Firstly to ensure you are on the right medication and secondly to ensure you don’t pay for it, maternity prescriptions are free with your exemption code. I was prescribed 150mg per day at my 12week scan, I am now 34wks and not had to pay or source my own. Please speak to your midwife and ask her for a prescription.

Yeah it’s normal. Normally you wouldn’t. But it’s okay. I take the 81mg I think. So I guess you’re probably just taking two ish. But if that’s what your doctor said then great

@Jayne she has prescribed but said to take shop bought until it’s processed

Oops, didn’t see that bit on the post 🙈 I was in this position but my midwife said its up to me, I went 2wks without once she confirmed I needed it (only because they don’t call when its ready🥲) but maybe check in with the boots pharmacist to ensure its the correct type if you are concerned

My low dose is 81 mg and I bought chewables at target because I don’t like pills

Definitely take the aspirin! It’s okay to take and is safe to do so. Some pharmacies get funny about giving them to pregnant ladies, so if you can, send in your partner to grab them. I’m on 150mg of aspirin and have found Tesco pharmacy has the best experience.
