Nursery starting to refuse packed lunches uk only

Hi is anyone else nursery starting to refuse packed lunches being brought into the setting? As of September my son will not be allowed a packed lunch into his nursery and I have to pay for the meals the nursery will be providing for him. He has previously been offered nursery meals but refused to eat them which meant he hadn’t eaten anything for lunch on the days he had attended hence why now I send a packed lunch but now they are refusing those and saying it’s due to allergies for other children I don’t know what else to do!! Please don’t think I’m not understanding that there are children out there with allergies and it can be serious for that individual but I am very careful with what I put into my sons lunch box and have never had a complaint from staff about this at all but I’m furious as now I feel as though my son will have to starve when he attends nursery all because they want to change their policies which I also personally feel it’s due to them loosing money through parents sending packed lunches. Long ass moan but I’m furious and just needing some advice please on if there is anything I can do other than swap nurseries

I’ll be taking my little boy out at lunch time due to them not being allowed packed lunches and if he gets distracted he won’t finish eating so maybe say to them you’ll be taking him out at lunch times due to him refusing them before x

Is he a picky eater? If so you could get a letter and request his needs to be accommodated, but they often do it only for medical reasons. I wonder if you could speak to your health visitor to see what they advice.

Otherwise see if they can guarantee to offer him what he usually eats.

My sons nursery don’t allow pack lunches either. But when I spoke with them about how fussy he is and hardly eats anything, the manager sat down with me and went through the whole 3 weeks (that’s their rotation of lunches) of menu and wrote down what he will eat, what can’t be mixes and needs to be separated etc. worth speaking to someone, go through the menu with them and see what happens. Xx

Funnily enough, this happened to me 30+ plus years ago at school! I think that I just ended up getting on with it as a sort of "monkey see, monkey do" type effect. I certainly ate things there that I'd never have eaten at home because others around me were eating it.
