BF to formula

I have recently swapped my BF 7 month old to formula but the past 2 nights he has been up all night in discomfort with wind. He is on SMA Alfamino, has anyone else had this problem? He is exhausted crying in his sleep, I don’t know what else to try! We were on nutramigen for a couple weeks prior but that seemed to make other symptoms worse.

Yep, its cause its so thin, maybe ask for carobel, and give a teeny bit of gripe water

@Sabah the gp refused the prescribe a thickener as he’s over 6 months, I’m wondering if it’s worth me just buying one if I can x

Definitely just buy one and try it

Same thing happened with my doctor. We’ve have to order and buy it from our local pharmacy for months I’m afraid :((

@Lottie did it help? I tried some gaviscon in it as he had that for his reflux a while ago but hasn’t made much difference this morning!

The carobel works wonders for us. We usually add 1.5-2 scoops in a 6.5oz bottle and wait about 5 mins for it to thicken

ugh, that sounds so tough! my little one had a rough time with gas too when we switched formulas, maybe try some gentle tummy massages or burping more often? hope he feels better soon! Just looked it up on the 'Heal App' and here's what it says: "It sounds really challenging to see your baby in discomfort, and it's understandable to feel overwhelmed. When switching formulas, some babies can experience digestive issues, including gas and discomfort. Here are two suggestions to help alleviate your baby's wind: 1. Burping Techniques: Ensure you're burping your baby frequently during and after feeds. Try different positions, like holding him upright against your shoulder or sitting him on your lap, to see what works best for him. 2. Feeding Position: Keep your baby in a more upright position during feeding to help reduce the amount of air swallowed. You might also consider using a slow-flow nipple to help control the flow of milk.
