Worries about it not working
My 10 w.o son has really bad gas and mild reflux - his weight gain has been great. He swallows a lot of air. I had him evaluated for tongue tie by a pediatric dentist and a LC pediatrician and both recommended release of ties. The dentist said to release his cheek and lip ties. The LC said to release his lip and tongue.
I am inclined to do it because of how bad his gas is and because during the weighted feeds, he only took in 2 ounces. Which is likely why he eats so frequently. The LC said if he becomes more efficient at eating, he will take in more milk and stretch out his time between feedings. She said that his tongue tie could cause issues in the future - including difficulty swallowing solids, speech issues, and more.
I’m worried he will be traumatized and it could cause feeding aversions and make it all worse. And I’ll feel like a bad mom for doing something that didn’t even help. But I’m also exhausted from feeding every two hours around the clock. I feel selfish putting him through this. He’s fussy sometimes but it’s not ALL the time. But how sustainable is it really to feed him every two hours for the rest of his infancy? It’s not.
I’m spiraling here. Any words of wisdom would help.
My son was similar and he was honestly not at all bothered about having his tongue tie released after about 2 minutes. There was very little discomfort or blood. The prospect of it was much worse for me than the actual experience for him. And he does feed much better since. I'm glad we had it done.
