My daughter starting purées and won't open her mouth🤦🏾‍♀️

I'm not super worried because she's still at six months going on seven, but she is completely unwilling to try even just a little bit. I would hate for her to fall behind in nutrients or lack what she needs so I'm hoping she will become more open. Today she tried a couple spoons of banana, but was blowing bubbles the whole time so I don't know.

It takes practice mama, she's still learning how food works, it took my oldest about 2 months to actually start eating properly, from not opening her mouth to spitting out food to throwing it, it just takes time

Keep this saying in mind! Food before one is just for fun Giving baby food this young really isn’t a “necessity”. It’s just to help them get used to it and learn new textures. Keep trying, of course. But don’t stress yourself out with it :)

Have you tried loading the spoon and just handing it over to her to play with? Or have you tried any finger foods yet?

🤣🤣🤣😂 shes sooo cute i couldn't help but laugh. Its normal! Try different foods you'll find one she really likes.

Have you tried sitting her on your lap while you eat? Instead of preparing a special plate for her, just offer little bits of whatever you’re eating. For example, if you’re having a banana, pinch off a tiny piece and hand it to her. She can explore it however she wants—play with it, taste it, spit it out—it’s all part of the process.

Sometimes my daughter would do this, so I started doing the choo choo train/airplane into her mouth and she would always open it. But when she closes her mouth shut I know that she doesn’t want anymore food too but that’s after a couple of bites usually. I would def try finger foods and see how she does there, my daughter loves to be able to just do it herself and feed herself so she can control it and how she wants to gnaw on it.

Mine did too. Eventually with consistency she started opening her mouth. But we started with the masher and everything was yuck face. Then I felt like I was forcing the food down for 1-2 weeks and with 3 weeks under her belt she is actually self feeding and opening her mouth

@Darian Love that saying, I never thought about it and kinda actually relaxes me!

@Julia just a couple of spoons of puree with a little on. I've tried putting it on her hand and doing the puree pacifier thing. All kind a dud

@Anya she's great at grabbing so ill try that too!

Have you tried mixing some breast milk in it so it smells familiar? I did that in the beginning but my baby was always reaching for the spoon.

Or her formula *

Try baby led weaning. We did this with my daughter and it worked great. Just put a whole rib or a whole carrot or something they won't choke on in front of them. They're going to pick it up lick it chew on it just like a toy. But eventually it will go in their mouth and they'll start biting off pieces and learn what to do with it. It might just be the texture that the baby doesn't like? There's an app called solid starts that goes through all the safety stuff with baby led weaning and how to distribute food by age.
