It's definitely a trial and error thing! I still make up bottles and end up wasting them because she might have a sip and decide no more but our typical day is wake up 7.30 ISH and never wants food straight away, so porridge/fruit purees finished with a bottle at around 8.30 ISH. Nap for an hour, porridge again at 12 ISH finished with a bottle and then nap 1-3. Bottle at 3.30pm, porridge at 7.30/8pm and then finish with a small bottle at 9pm and she'll go to bed 9.30pm to 7.30am and repeat 😅 I did food only before bed to start with to help fill before bed and then slowly introduced it as breakfast as well and now I'm going 3 times a day with 2 bottles in between. It'll start to become clear for you soon! ❤️ Xx
It is hard with all the milk feeds and solids there's hardly any time left when they are on 3 meals. Anyway we've just increased to 2 meals, so generally I feed him milk when he wakes up, then about 30 minutes before nap I give him puree. Probably going to do this in 1st and 3rd wake windows. Was doing lunchtime but now he's on 2 meals wanted to space them out a bit more, then at dinner I'll give him some finger foods which he barely eats yet, eats a lot of puree though.
I tend to do a bottle first thing..then a small breakfast of greek yogurt&banana with one finger of lightly toasted bread. ..then few hours later her next bottle which is roughly 3.5 hours.. then her 3rd bottle , then 5ish she has puree, solid veg with maybe some fruit.. then last bottle at 7
I find that my son is too tired to have porridge around 7ish, he has dinner with us and then a bottle around 7, but it woukd be good if he ate porridge around that time instead to make him fuller for longer. But he's too tired I think but I might try it tonight, also I feel like he will be bathed ready for bed and then there will be porridge everywhere!! X
We do two meals now breakfast and tea and I am now combi feeding milk now. My boy eats HUGE amounts of solid like actually consumes adult size portions he’s a greedy piglet 😂 So I BF him on demand between 4-6:30, this differs amount each day, he’ll normally then BF again about half 8 then have a nap. We feed him breakfast at about half 9 (different things weetabix, toast beans eggs etc. always with a side of fruit). Then he’ll have a bottle of formula after nap 2 about 1ish. Then I BF him again on demand throughout the afternoon. Then he’ll have tea about 5 (fruit while I make it, savoury stuff then a yoghurt for dessert) then a bottle of formula about 7 before bed. He doesn’t wake to feed again until about 4 pretty much every night now for a few weeks xx
I’m in no rush to add a third meal in as I also feel, where am I supposed to fit this meal in 😂 so might wait til he’s 8 months unless he shows signs of being hungrier because of the amount he consumes with breakfast and tea being so big and he has such a variety of stuff I’m not worried about it holding him back being on two meals a day for a bit longer xx
My boy is the same! Finding it really hard to get enough milk in with him because he doesn’t ask either anymore. But I read that the first year of food for a baby is just for fun so I’ve been cutting back a little on foods and just doing more milk with a smaller amount of food so like some porridge before his first nap of the day and then some mashed veggies at like 4 pm and so far so good he doesn’t seem to be too full from this 🤞
@Charlotte that’s exactly what I’m doing right now is wasting milk 🙈 thinking he’ll be wanting it and he either has an ounce or less and doesn’t want it 😅 it is frustrating but it’ll fall into place I guess as he gets more of an appetite for solids and needs less milk x
@Tanya that’s what I’m finding it hard with now it seems like there’s not enough time for milk, solids, naps and bedtime all in one day 😅 x
@Jenny I think that’s what I’ll try doing a breakfast & dinner spacing the solids out enough for him to want them x
@Stacey oh there would definitely be a porridge massacre another bath would be needed 🤣 x
@Amy from what I’ve been reading from yourself & others breakfast and dinner with the solids seems to be the most popular way of doing them for the spacing out between so I’ll give that a go 😊 x
@Amy I think that’s maybe where I’m worrying too much myself about this third meal cause like yourself I’ve no idea where it’s meant to fit in in the day 😅 xx
@Kelly I think I may need to do the same and cut back on the solids a little and focus on milk again but I end up keeping going with the solids cause he keeps opening his mouth for them but then doesn’t want milk 😅 x
I try to give a few spoons of whatever I made for her and see if she wants it. If she is too tired or grumpy I put it away and try again later so it does not go to waste. I breastfeed on demand still , but if she has a lot of milk I will wait before I offer the solid food because she will be too full. I will start to offer food twice in the day soon because she seems to like it.
