I know it is hard to compare. My girl just started walking with the push walker a few days after she turned 17 months. It’s funny because I was saying to my mom that day that we may need to do physical therapy if she doesn’t start walking soon. Lo and behold later that day, she walked past me with her push walker lol I was in shock. She will do the push walker a few times a day. And will only get randomly to do it by herself when no one is watching. Most of the time she rather crawl. The one thing I did do with her everyday for a few weeks was make her stand and try to get her to walk while I supported her. Then I would push the push walker like it was so much fun lol I am sure I looked silly. I am not sure if I am any help but I am a first time mom and just tried whatever would get her interested in walking
Not sure where you are located but every state has an early intervention program and it’s free. You do not have to always have a pediatric recommendation at first either. I would highly recommend. It’s hard to compare because my son is walking but he’s very small and his head is very small. He always had to have his soft spot checked to make sure it hadn’t fused. I know that the bigger babies can have a hard time getting started with mobility because they don’t have the muscle tone to carry themselves. Early intervention can certainly give you some tips and it’s like having a free tutor come to your home.
It can feel absolutely devastating when your kid isn’t meeting milestones like others’ are, especially when you feel like you’re doing everything you can for your child’s well-being. Therapy isn’t a bad thing. Some kids just need extra tools/encouragement strategies. The sooner the better. 💗
My daughter started occupational therapy when she was about 6 months and it was the best thing we could do. We love her occupational therapist and she would provide us tips on what we could practice with her and she would come to our home once a week for an hour. We are actually sad her services will end this month but she said she is meeting all her milestones. In CA we search our local regional center. They did an assessment and provided us with an occupational therapist and an infant teacher.
Mine is 17 months on Wednesday and absolutely refuses to walk as well. She totally can but wants to hold your finger or have support and will sit down if you let go. 🙃
