Nursery

Is anybody else dreading nursery fees? Even with the funded hours in September the bill is approx £500 per month 😩 I just don’t get how it’s feasible. Feeling very grateful that we now get the funding because WOW if we didn’t I wouldn’t know what we would do. Sad because it makes a second baby so unaffordable!

Yep! Ours is £75 per day and then they charge a consumables fee on the days that are funded!! We are fortunate my partner is a teacher so she will be term time but it's still so expensive!!! I'm going back part time for 6 months as I just don't see the point in working full time as the money I make basically goes on nursery fees after tax etc!

I agree with you @Maisie !! It seems so pointless to work full time for it mostly to go on nursery payments to pay for childcare when really I want to be the one looking after my baby - I think I’m going to try part time and just see if it’s worth it. On my days at work my mum said she would have my little girl

How did you work out how much it will be after funded hours? I know the daily rate of our nursery but no clue how much the funded hours actually cover 🥹

@Francesca the nursery we are using has a fee calculator. This was for 4 days 8-6, 30hours funding but stretched over 50 weeks per year and nursery £64.50 per day x

@Francesca i think the funding works our at something like 22.2 hours if you're using it spread out throughout the year xx

@Maisie thanks! Do they cover a certain amount and then it’s up to you to top it up? Nurseries vary in price quite a bit

@Francesca yes it’s just based on hours regardless of the cost from what I understand. So if it’s £45 or £75 per day you’d still get 30 hours x
