Not happy with second choice school

We didn't get our 1st choice because the school is full so ended up with second choice. For this reason I don't think it's worth appealing if they're full. On the open day of our second choice the head teacher basically said, they will start full time straight away and they'll get tired but they'll get use to it. He was very much the sort of person that makes the decisions and u have to follow them. They seemed very desk bound rather than play during the reception year. My concerns are hes going to possibly be the youngest there and he's only use to 2 days at nursery. They're full days but not back to back. To expect him to go straight into 5 full days of school is really stressing me out. There's no spaces at nursery to increase his days (waiting list it to September!). I dont want to hold him back a year just because of this. Ideally half days for the week would have been good like the other schools are doing. This headteacher just seems so backdated.

You can request half days whether they’re the norm or not Tbh I firmly believe full days from the off can be such a good thing especially for kids who have done nursery/preschool and are used to it! But honestly just speak to the school put your feelings across and state due to the fact he’s a summer born you would rather slowly build up to full days so will be collecting him before lunch/after lunch/bringing him from lunch etc

well for starters, he’s wrong. legally they don’t have to be in full time education until 5, and before that you absolutely can do part time if you wish. that’s not his choice, that’s YOUR choice. but like above said, i think full days will be really good, but in my instance my boy has been in nursery since 9 months old, he loves nursery and seeing his friends every day etc, i think he will quickly get used to full time school and make friends as he’s super social and i just think for my boy personally it’ll be super beneficial for him to start full time. definitely, however, speak to the school if you wish for part time, they can’t deny you that because school at that age is not a legal requirement, they don’t have to start until the term after they turn 5! Xx

Firstly like others have said, until he's legally required and education at 5 they can go part time. Secondly appeal and get put on the waiting list for your first school not every space offered will be accepted , people might move or appeal if that school wasn't their first choice so get on the waiting list. Xx

I maybe wrong because they aren't 5 you can request half days or even part time
