@Emma Do you have any websites for support when I propose this to my landlord please?

Yeah they can't "unreasonably " say no. One that they do use to get around it, is to say they have a severe pet allergy, in which case they can say strictly no pets. Also, although they legally can't discriminate against pets, if there are multiple people applying to rent a property, they get to choose who gets it. And if 3 have no pets and 1 does, you can bet who they won't be choosing :( specifically told this by a letting agent who was very candid, and said that renting with pets nowadays hasn't really changed in reality. If you already rent and then put a request in then you have a better chance. But if your planning on moving pets in with you, keeping quiet, then requesting, your a bit screwed if they say no. -currently renting, move house next week, and have 7 cats. Not informed landlord and wont be doing. Yes I feel a bit bad, but I would feel worse getting rid of them. And iv never left a rented property with any sort of damage from them 🤷♀️
@Sally I am in the same position! I recently moved and have a British Short Hair male 2 years old. I left my last place and it was spotless I even cleaned the carpets, I take these things super seriously. I am looking to request this soon and want to find out exactly how to go around it. Thank you so much for sharing!
Reading that info Emma posted makes me more hopeful. However in my position, I don't think anyone can consider 7 cats "reasonable " lol. One or two maybe. The house we are moving from we have been here 2 years, inspection every 6monthes and they have never questioned if we have cats, so I would presume there are no signs! We have been lucky here that they have never had any accidents and never needed a litter tray. Once or twice if they have been shut in and desperate they have done it in the bath. I'm hoping it will be the same at the new house. I only wish we could tell the landlord for the sake of having a cat flap fitted. That would make life easier all round! X
I am a landlord through bereavement, not through my choice and personally, I don’t care. As long as your pets are loved and aren’t damaging the property to the point where when you leave, I have to pay out of pocket to repair it have it. Our current tenants tried to hide a cat and we found out the letting agents came to us and said is this an issue? We said no? Because like I’ve said animals a part of your family and they should be loved and have their own home.
@Emma you are an absolute angel! I agree with you, animals definitely change and make a family feel more warm and the memories and love is unconditional! You are giving me so much hope for my landlord!
Can’t be a blanket ban on pets they have to give a valid reason on why they don’t allow pets i.e. a great Dane fifth story flat.
