Also in Wales single mum and I private rent if you want to drop me a message to ask anything your welcome to hun, I’ll try to help the best I can 💚
@Corinne I tried calculators online and they ask how much rent and council tax I pay etc. but obviously I haven’t moved out yet so I wouldn’t know so I can’t do it 🫠
Just look on Rightmove and get an idea of what the rent is in your area. Council tax bands can be found online too. Look at a band C that's an average x
@Corinne I don’t even understand council tax haha! They ask how much I pay and I don’t know where I’d find that online. But I will try x
What area is it?
@Corinne south wales x
Look on the a local towns council website for council tax prices. Should say on there. Each band has a different price. Round my way, a band C is the middle value x
You'd need to check your eligibility, but if you're able to find a private rental, Universal Credit award a housing element which is separate to your standard and child allowances 💛 if you're 'single', you get a council tax reduction, and I don't know about other companies, but Welsh Water had a HelpU Tarriff which helps with reducing your water bills if you're on a low income. Hope this information helps - you can always check out the turn2us eligibility calculator too 🥰
Ik hostels sound bad but I went the homeless route and ended up in temp accommodation in my own flat for about 3 months and then got given a house. It was the best thing to happen to me and you will be high priority with the baby being there as well. It wouldn't be too long. You just need your mum to cooperate and say she's kicked u out x
I was stuck on a waiting list for housing for 3 years with my baby - ended up going private rental but with universal credit, they gave an allowance towards housing costs (think they covered up to £450 or something like that) and you should be able to get a 25% council tax reduction for being a single person. I was living with my dad and I love him but I found it so hard living under his roof with a child of my own. Definitely look into private rental if you’re desperate - I found that it really helped improve my mental state being able to have my own space (albeit I only moved a 10 min drive away lol). Keep an eye out on Zoopla I’d say - even if it’s just having a nose whilst you’re on the waiting list for housing anyways and maybe something might pop up sooner than the housing list. 🤍
I know exactly how you feel. I'm in the complete same situation as you. At home with my parents and my 4 year old. You can have your own space and always feel like your under feet to everyone. Drop me a message if you like. Be nice to chat to someone who understands exactly what I'm going through
Thanks everyone! I also wanted to ask, if I did go private, do the landlords care that I’m a single mum on UC? X
Most don't, some do. Just be honest when applying. They may ask for a guarantor and you'll have to pay a deposit anyway x
Mine didn’t, I explained my situation and I’m private, they asked me to provide a guarantor though
You should get some help with your rent and discount on council tax. Use the turn2us calculator to get an idea of what help you would get x
