Tinned spaghetti/pasta

Ok so when I am in a time crunch, I sometimes give my son these tinned spaghetti hoops/tinned cheesy macaroni. What I tend to do, is rinse the sauce off and make a veggie sauce with fresh broccoli, or butternut etc. He does love it! My MIL was absolutely appalled and said I am feeding him like a peasant/poor person! She said this type of food is terrible for people, and literally poison. Now I feel like I am the worst mother in the entire world. Now I feel like I've been so lazy when I do this on busy days. Am I really that bad? Does anyone else feed these sometimes?

God, not at all! I wouldn’t say you were a terrible mother even if you were literally serving the hoops without rinsing and making a sauce yourself. Your MIL sounds very judgemental and classist as well. So really, you shouldn’t allow yourself to be criticised by someone so awful!

What’s wrong with tinned food? I was raised on it. Everything in moderation is fine. Edit: I don’t feed my boy it. But that’s only because he wont eat beans/ tinned spaghetti. However he eat mc Donald’s and chicken nuggets and the such 🤣

You’re not bad at all, you’re better than me using your own sauce, I find when my little girl is teething she goes off anything she has to chew so spaghetti hoops to the rescue, it’s not every meal time & not a whole tin and if it gets her to eat then brilliant. I do freeze portions of stuff like home made spaghetti Bol and chilli when I have extra so she’s always got them available but sometimes she feels rubbish and wants something she doesn’t have to put effort in. Your MIL would pass out being around me because I personally love a spaghetti hoops on toast when I’m in a rush 😂😂 You’re doing a great job, and unless she’s willing to meal prep for you then just smile and nod when she talks is my advice 🥰

Nope I feed mine that aswell he has a lot of cooked food aswell he loves anything pasta so I get him them spaghetti bolognese etc for him if I run out of normal then I have the cans to fall back on as long as there getting veg etc I don’t see the harm. Does she eat anything from a can say it back to her that she’s eating peasant food weather that be beans or a soup she eats from cans food is food end of the day as long as he’s fed it’s all what matters *** I worked in nurserys aswell and they used a lot of canned food so it’s everywhere

Just tell her they are from Waitrose and are actually posh spaghetti hoops 😂 On a more serious note, the most important thing that your son is fed, and I'm actually super impressed that you even make some healthy sauce to replace the ketchupy tomato sauce hoops are floating in. I never in my life thought we will have baked beans in our house and it's a staple now simply because it's one of the very few foods that are almost always approved by my son. Is it the most healthy food? Not really. Is it poison? Not at all.

I don’t rinse the sauce I just feed as is, usually put it with nuggets or fish fingers once or twice a week (usually on our swimming evening so every Monday) so if your terrible what am I? 🤣🤣 Honestly, as long as they are eating you are doing GREAT job! Xx

Girl I still give my child ready meals sometimes especially if she is being fussy which has happened lately! Some days she eats whatever I cook other days she will not for the love of god touch it, you are not doing anything wrong!

This is crazy chat!! So judgey & unnecessary… My gal loves beans on toast & spaghetti hoops! 🤣🫣 does that make me terrible… I think not. If we are having something that she can’t have or won’t like she’ll have them… don’t feel bad, we’re all out here doing our best! ♥️ xxxxx

My son loves spaghetti hoops. He eats really well at nursery (home cooked, fresh, loads of variety) but is fussier at home, so if he will just eat spaghetti hoops and toast so be it
