My little boy will only drink squash as well. It's not the end of the world. I grew up drinking squash & still have all of my teeth.
just try getting sugar free, my sister was the same it’s better than dehydrating x
Juice is bad for their teeth in general but worse if they’re drinking it throughout the day because the juice is causing acid build up in the mouth several times in the day and that’s one of the things that rots teeth and it doesn’t matter if it’s sugar free. So basically between the morning and night brush their teeth are being exposed. We never introduced juice at all for that reason. Can you slowly phase it out by diluting it with more water each time? Xx
Just buy sugar free squash/juice!
My son has never drunk water, still doesn’t now at the age of ten. We even tried not giving him anything but water for a couple of days (nursery was on board with this too) and he just didn’t drink so I stopped that tactic and just succumb to the fact he doesn’t like it. Just be thorough with teeth brushing and get sugar free! There are lots of kids in this position my love, don’t feel guilty xxx
Just to add, we gave him food of course, we didn’t starve him and only give water 🫣😂
Thank you for all your kind advice! 🩷 think I’m going to try water again, maybe in a different cup to see if that’s the issue? If that doesn’t work, I think I’ll just let her have the juice. Xx
Sounds like a solid plan. We have so many other things to stress about, don’t worry if this doesn’t work out. I’d just keep making a water, don’t make a big deal to them about it (they smell fear 😂) in between squash and just have it around for them to have if they want/get curious x
@Jade thank you so much, ngl I was feeling a bit guilty but you have reassured me! They can so smell fear as well, you’re so right😂 Will definitely take your advice on board 🩷
It’s very, very common, please don’t feel guilty at all. I Hope it all works out well for you ❤️
I was the same as this when I was younger, instead of sugar free squash I recommend using “fruit and barley” squash obviously as long as no allergies as lots of children have allergies to barley the last few years from what I have seen! Tasted the exact same as sugar free squash, it’s also sugar free but also made from natural sweeteners and flavourings that give the same flavour and taste but definitely much healthier!! x
Also there's a lot of hydration children can get from fruit so if hydration is a concern, that's something else you can use x
Have you tried a plastic coloured cup? I’m not sure how old she is but I never let my LG have anything besides water but when she sees someone with a fruit shoot or juice and wants it I redirect her to her water bottle that’s a purple/pink plastic and she thinks it’s juice. Maybe a tad bit of food colouring not sure how safe that is😂although she’s never had it so she doesn’t realise that her water bottle and a fruit shoot are totally different which will obviously be difficult for you but if you could colour the water somehow and then try and convince her that it is juice
I wouldn’t just worry about teeth. I’d worry about her healthy if my daughter was only drinking commercial juice and flavoured water 🥲

@Dominique well it’s either that or she drinks nothing so I’d rather she didn’t end up being hospitalised from dehydration
I see, I am sorry. I have never offered my son juice, he’s 3 and has never even tried it, doesn’t know it exists. He does love coconut water though, I mix it with water just otherwise he’d drink loads of it. It adds a little sweetness and he loves it.
@Dominique I might try coconut water with her water then :)
As a side note, when I was little, I had rotten teeth but we did brush our teeth every day (although I remember only doing it once a day) and I don’t remember being thorough. We didn’t eat tonnes of sweets but we did eat them sometimes but we did probably mainly drink juice. That’s why I’m worried. I don’t want her to have the same teeth I did (although my teeth are fine now🤣)
