IEP

My children are 4 years old twins who will be going to kindergarten in September. They currently have an IEP , and a meeting was hell today to see if they need to continue service ( speech & OT ). When their godmother heard that they're will be having an iep for kindergarten, I could hear it in her voice that she didn't like the fact that they would be having an iep in kindergarten. Since my kids have been born, I and the Dr and I noticed that they're may need certain services, I have worked hard to make sure that they received them, but has they got older, I realized that a few close relatives around me thinks it not great to be labeled has having an iep or being in a special education classroom. I wasn't born in america , but I attended school here for junior and high school. So I want to know why it is that having am an iep is such a bad thing. My kids are very smart. They just have challenges in certain area

My daughter has an IEP, I think it's the best thing I did for her. Like you say, they are smart, but sometimes they just need some extra time to finish the assignment or tests. And having one help me understand the areas she is struggling the most. She's 10 now, going to middle school in August.

I had an iep during my school career, I didn’t get it until I was in 3rd grade, but I would not have survived without mine. It helped me a lot. The climate in America is scary for disabled and neurodivergent people. But accommodations are life changing & life saving.

It’s not a bad thing. My son is in preschool and has an IEP. It helps him get the supports we needs to learn in an environment that suits him,

So they want your children to struggle due to a stigma THEY hold? This it’s about them. IEP or not, it doesn’t negate your children need certain accommodations. Man, people are dumb bc THEY have an image THEY would like to uphold.

All 3 of my children have an IEP and there is nothing wrong with that. Other children just need that extra boost but in a way that helps them.

Nothing wrong with Ieps. Just people of certain ages think it's bad in part because of possibly not fully understanding it, or just listening to other ppl talk. Both my kids have iep, only one is in special education class because he was born 13 weeks early so they were wating to see what would happen then last year I got him tested for autism and he had it which i knew most likely. Special education classes just slow down the material they learn. My other son is in for speech and that will stay for class in August.

Both my boys have an iep and it's the best decision ever. Girl don't let the worries of other get to you. You do what you have to do what's right for your kids.

Follow what u think is the best for ur kids IEPs are not bad they help the student
