This sucks.

So we breed rats. Most of y’all in here know that. Tonight smoky aka moky gave birth to her second litter of pups. The first litter was incredibly small but we didn’t think much of it. However I’m now convinced that something is wrong with Moky reproductive wise. Because there was only four this time (and it’s been almost 3 hours so she has to be done giving birth at this point) and sadly when I got up to check since I wasn’t hearing any of the annoying tiny baby squeaks that usually would have woken me up several times by now, I saw that two of the four were stillborn and the other two don’t look great either. She has fed them, they have milk bellies. But they just are INSANELY tiny and I’m doubting they’ll survive. We won’t be breeding her again after this. If she doesn’t take care of the stilllborn babies by morning (as rats usually do), we will get them out of there and the others if they don’t make it through the night. I wasn’t at all expecting this when she went into labor tonight. So freaking sad.

@Breaha debatable on affectionate 🤣🤣 all of mine are assholes but yeah we woke up and she’d eaten one baby.. but the two I figured would pass did not. 🩷

@Darian I had a friend who had 3 female rats. One was so friendly she'd snuggle into the crease between my neck and shoulder and would also kiss my nose. 🥹🥰 She was such a love bug. I'm guessing she's doing that because her instincts are telling her that the babies won't make it.

Rat babies are called pups???? I didn’t know that. I actually never considered what they’d be called. But poor babies 🥺🥺🥺 how’s mom?

@Ciera the two survived!! She’s looking a little less sad, but still won’t eat the other stillborn one or move off of them for longer than it takes to get a drink or grab a piece of food. :( I’m really worried about her.

@Breaha as of today she’s not eating or drinking and she’s freaking the hell out when anyone gets near her and the babies. Hubby went to refill her food earlier and she picked a baby up and was like ripping it around freaking out. It’s not hurt but she’s acting insane
