Work question đź’ˇ

I work for a huge company within the UK. I am being made redundant at the end of May but I am currently on the sick leave due to anxiety and stress (not work related, personal problems). I am meant to facing an investigation when I return to work - which I won't be doing, I am waiting to be made redundant. Say if I ever wanted to work for the company again, would the investigation still stand if I chose to return?

I think it depends on what it is?

If you’re off on sick they might not move forward with your redundancy and wait until you’re back to engage in the investigation and could dismiss you based on the outcome. If you get your redundancy and apply for a job in the future you will probably need to detail your employment history and if they see you’ve worked there before on your application form any manager will likely do their digging. Technically no, if you leave in May 2025 and want to work there in future they cannot simply pick up an investigation meeting, investigations need to be timely so there won't be anything to gain that won't be affected by time, i.e. memory and relevance. However, if let's say the investigation was into an allegation you stole something, if the people that know are still there when you apply for a job, they may not give you an opportunity to work there again. If you want to give any more details, maybe there's more I can add

Are you a member of the relevant Trade Union? Sounds like you need someone knowledgeable of the details to guide you through each issue: sickness absence management, any allegations or investigations and the redundancy process. The rules around redundancy processes are quite strict, so I’m not sure you can be made redundant while off sick?
