Starting solids

Hey mamas! I’m a first time mom and I have no idea how to start solids. My baby will turn 5 months in few days. I have some questions. What are the signs he’s ready for solids? Do we have to start with puree or directly pieces of food? At what month did you start feeding them solids? Thank youuu in advance 💕

If you use social media or apps, ‘solid starts’ is an amazing app/social to add! They have so many answers and I use them all the time to know how to prepare food for my baby ☺️

@Hanah N. I’ll check it out!! Yes i love apps. Thanks for the info 🩷🙏🏼

I started them at 4mo. For him, it was how steady he held up his head, and his milk thrust action was fading. I'm doing purees, but I'm actually making them myself. You can do baby led weaning instead if you want to (the small pieces of food) but as a ftm I was not comfortable with it. 1 new food consistently for 3 days, to keep an eye on allergic reactions. Feel free to message me with any questions! I used Pinterest for ideas on what to give him

Baby led weaning isn't really reccomended until 6 months, but you can start purees as early as 4 months. We just started purees at 5 months. He can sit assisted and i knew he was ready because he kept wanting my food and smacking his lips! You can also try purees and see how your baby reacts, if they push the food out with their tongue it means they aren't ready.
