I was on time btw just later then usual and overheard them saying this
Personally I don’t like their attitude. It would certainly bother me and it feels somewhat punishing when it needn’t be managed that way.

I would be really annoyed. So they would rather your daughter go without?! That’s crazy behaviour I’m often late and my nursery teachers always keep my LO some breakfast otherwise she would be so hungry lunch isn’t until 11:30/12. I personally would mention you heard what they said
Agree 100% with @Ness. I wouldn't want to leave my child there, the attitude is not caring. I was late to my LOs nursery once and didn't realise it was after the cut off for breakfast. When they said breakfast time was over I said I'd take him to pret next door and feed him then bring back. They insisted that I didn't have to and they would whip up some toast for him!
I wouldnt say its rude, a bit frustrating maybe especially if its only a one off for you but their rules are their rules, ours is the same. Mine would give her something though once she got settled in even a banana or a yoghurt
