Quitting work

Did anyone go back to work then quit to be a stay at home mum? I’m thinking about quitting. I only work 16 hours and pretty much all my wage goes on childcare as I work school hours in prep for when he does go to school. My husband earns a really good wage so we can fortunately afford it. My boy hates nursery and I would rather look after him and soak up these times as they don’t stay small for long. How are you managing finances now you’re not working etc.

As someone who chose not to go back at all because we too are fortunate enough that my partner earns a good wage, I say quit.. He takes care of the bills etc. and I make some pennies from selling on Vinted, and even on TikTok that makes money for things like a hotel for a concert coming up etc. My MIL runs a nursery that age ranges from 2 so come November she will be joining with funded hours and I can’t see me even going back then tbh. In fairness it’s not one that runs during school breaks anyway. I’d rather use those times to get stuff done like chores end errands lol

Do children get funded nursery at 2? From the government? I thought we had to go back to work to be entitled to that?

@Nadine yeh the universal funding is for working parents

If I could afford it I would definitely take a career break for 1-2 years at this stage! Worst case scenario if its not for you, theres nothing to stop you from going back to employment x

I quit to become a sahm! We're managing to get by. But I'm thinking of doing some baking on evenings/weekends to bring in a little extra income.

If you are fortunate to do it and you are happy with the decision, I think it's the best. As you say they don't stay little very long. I would have loved to do it for a short term but we can't. But yes do think of long term for yourself. My MIL and her friend who quit their jobs when their kids were little told me that she did regret it as she now doesn't have much to do. She did try to go back to work once the kids were older but she struggled. So I would say think of the long term as well and what you want for yourself.Hope this helps

@Ryann I looked into nursery for 3 year olds and couldn’t see we would get funding if I’m not working? Do you know much about it?

Thank you all! I think I’ve made my mind up and will be taking a career break for a while x

I never went back. Due to unfortunate circumstances my LO needs full time help at home so we had to cancel his place at nursery (reserved since 6m pregnant) We’re very fortunate my husband earns a good wage so I’m able to be at home full time
