And My 2.4 yo boy just started talking a few words like 2-3 weeks ago.
Actually the most recommended thing for autistic children is early support, meaning appropriate support as early as possible. Having a diagnosis means they can put the most appropriate support into place. I am currently FIGHTING to get my youngest diagnosed so she can have the best support possible. It’s a struggle. Whilst my eldest was diagnosed at 2 years and 4 months. She has Amazing support in place and is progressing amazingly with that support. The DSM-5 for ASD is more than mile stones, so if your child is just delayed with their milestones they will not be diagnosed with autism. But the waiting list is extremely long and it is better to be put on the waiting list for community paeds to decline it later than it is to wait round and hope for the best. IMO schools and doctors don’t push for an ASD referral for just speech alone. That would just be a speech therapist referral. Have you atleast been referred for speech therapy?
Basically if you keep saying no, they aren’t able to help your child with her speech or anything else she is struggling with. You’re only delaying support.
Hey hun my twins were born 30/11/22 and don’t talk much off few words. At their development check they weren’t worried as they’re able to communicate in other ways and just referred us to an early talk playgroup which we start soon. Everyone we’ve spoken to has told us not to be concerned if there are no signs other than speech it’s likely they’re just delayed in speaking. I think healthcare workers are just being a lot more proactive at the moment with referrals x
Hi my step son started talking after 3 yo and he is 7 now and very bright
