Hi Tobi. Thanks for responding. It's comforting to know someone else who has experienced this too and that I'm not alone. I'm so sorry you didn't have an easy pregnancy but it's so good you conceived naturally. They won't do IVF without the surgery as it could impact the chance of success. Do you have any issues from the fibroids? Are they degenerating? Do you have the constant need to wee? In a way I'm thankful to reduce the symptoms of constantly needing to wee. It might make for a healthier pregnancy.
Oh I see, I guess they will want to make sure it has the best chance possible at success.. You aren’t alone! I was surprised at how many people actually have them. Some degenerated around 14 weeks, it was really painful and I ended up in hospital for a few days with the pain. It calmed down after about 2/3 weeks and it was sore but manageable until I gave birth. It took about a year for them to shrink back down and even then not to the size they were before pregnancy. Thankfully none on/near bladder so didn’t have any issues with needing to pee. If it’s not extensive surgery, based on how many and the size, it might make pregnancy a bit easier. However, I do know people in your shoes who still had pretty uneventful pregnancies without removing the fibroids.
@tobi Apart from the pain did you bleed while pregnant
@Sass I had a little bit of spotting, I think for a day or two, around 10 weeks but that was it. No other bleeding at all
I have multiple( >15-20)fibroids, much bigger than yours (some >15cm) and mostly they were outside the uterus so I was told it shouldn’t affect conception too much, which it didn’t. I conceived naturally although it wasn’t an easy pregnancy. I have heard so many stories of women with fibroids - I think conception is mainly affected when they’re inside the womb cavity. I had an MRI scan to pinpoint every one and then a decision was made that surgery wasn’t necessary. Are your doctors adamant you need surgery? It comes with its own risks too…
