Nonstop crying in the car seat

My LO is 4 months and since birth has cried hysterically in the car I mean sweating buckets, tears and the hyperventilating type crying. I have tried it all, toys, dummy’s, mirror with toys, jacket off, adjusting the temperature, white noise, singing to baby and NOTHING works. It’s really starting to deter me from wanting to go out and making driving a stressful experience. Please tell me when this will end! I need light at the end of this tunnel!

Have you adjusted the straps?

My 3MO did this and I removed the new born insert, ever since she doesn’t mind the car!

If the above suggestions don’t work try a cranial osteopath. My lg used to hate the car seat and a few sessions with one she had a marked improvement. Sometimes it’s the position they’re in in the seat!

I know you’ve said you’ve tried everything but this car mirror with lights works well for us as long as it’s on before she gets upset https://www.amazon.co.uk/Munchkin-Firefly-entertaining-soothing-melodies/dp/B07C2V8M6K/ref=asc_df_B07C2V8M6K/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310809312674&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2152678413002661452&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007188&hvtargid=pla-563307089667&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

My baby was exactly the same, it was awful, he used to scream, breath hold and choke on his saliva, he would be sweating by the time we got to wherever we needed to go, spent loads on toys, some with remotes to turn lights and sounds on etc, white noise, music etc, nothing worked, then someone advised me to move him to the front seat , he is still rear facing, and I hate it as I don’t have isofix in the front so his seat is strapped in, and you have to turn the airbags off, but the first time I did it last week, as I had to do a 20 min journey, he didn’t murmur a word! It’s not ideal by any means and if my partner is in the car then he goes in the back again and I sit next to him, but for now, that’s how I have to do it or I couldn’t go anywhere

I’ve had the same problem with my LB. He also doesn’t like the pram, so getting outside with him is a mission. I have recently found that if I get him into the car after he’s just had a nap he doesn’t cry. For us, I think he’s overtired and doesn’t know how to self soothe, so when put in the car he panics because he wants to sleep but the only way he knows how is to scream until he passes out (I normally rock, feed or have him in the sling to go to sleep). I now make sure to time our outings (where possible) after a decent nap. Hope this works for you too

@Gemini definitely going to try this. I’ve read this a few times.

Such hard work ladies. I get nervous going out sometimes but you need to do what needs to be done

@emzie I have adjusted them yes but still no change 😞

@Lisa he’s already in the front 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

@Shadae oh bless you! I also think as they get older they grow out of it and when they can hold things properly (as my boy can’t yet) then maybe he’ll be more distracted by toys. I am also thinking about buying the next size car seat which can also be used at his age as it is more upright, as he has reflux and cmpa so think he also doesn’t find the i size comfortable with his tummy. He also struggles to keep the dummy in which doesn’t help either so we’re working on that 😖
