Teething and colds contribute to mucus in poo. I found with my LO that her poo was green and really runny sometimes frothy. I was breastfeeding her and bottle so she’s LF and if I ate cheese that’s when she would pass that kind of stool x
Also, because she’s on sma LF milk her poo is green for some reason
Lactose intolerance is very rare... cows milk protein allergy is more common and if you're formula feeding it might be worth going to GP for hydrolysed milk (eg aptimal pepti). I went on SMA LF milk and my son had an awful reaction to it! It's made of cows milk and not suitable for CMPA, but I was wrongly advised by GP! My little one had lots of symptoms one of them being green mucousy poo... I've been dairy free for 4 weeks and back to fully BF and symptoms are so much better and poos back to normal now! Could it be worth a try for you? There's a great FB group called Breastfeeding - CMPA support x
@Riiii so we’ve been given aptamil pepti from the doctor to try, but on the back it says can make poo green, so I don’t even know how we’ll know 😂 I’m wondering if it was the apatamil comfort colic formula making them green, although it doesn’t say it on the back of that one and the dr said her poo shouldn’t look like that 😩 x

I had this when my son was on cow and gate colic and constipation and he would have green/ yellow poo. He would really struggle. He goes everyday but cried when going So I changed him to cow and gate infant and he seems ok with it so far, it’s only been a week and half
@Fariha thank you! So he had that poo without having a milk allergy? X
@Riiii nope just formula fed and she was on aptamil comfort which has reduced lactose as well, she’s the exact same but doesn’t seem in pain really, but it takes her a lot of straining to get it out! X
Mines on aptamil pepti and hes poos are green x
@Latifa what were his symptoms to go onto it if you don’t mind me asking? X
When he was around 5-7 weeks I jsut noticed him not settling at night, pulling up his legs going red. It seemed liked trapped wind now that I think about it. Dr suggested colief and infacol but that wasn’t working for us. Dr then gave the milk and he did seem better (or maybe his digestive system just adjusted) I’m now giving him one bottle of his previous milk, Kendamil and he seems ok.
@Latifa oh bless him, see she did the same but moving onto the aptamil comfort and using colief did seem to help her as she was passing gas so much better, although it stinks! 😂 It’s literally just her poo, but if the poo can be green on this formula anyway I’m unsure how we’ll even know x
My LG has CMPA and she still has poos like this and she’s been on nutramigen milk for 6wks now (since 8wks old). Green poos from formula can be from a lot of iron in the formula I raised this with the feeding team at alder hey as my little one was the same. :)
@Leah-Shannon oh really! I did think surely by 4 months old we would know if she did have cmpa or not but I have no idea! What were your little ones symptoms? I don’t want to keep changing her formula, and don’t want her to be on a milk free if there’s no need. It’s so hard to know what to do for the best x
My LG had severe projectile vomiting (she’d bring up an entire feed) wouldn’t poo for days on end, had a bumpy rash all over her face, wouldn’t feed (would thrash round like a killer whale whilst feeding us have to pin her down which was traumatic for us both) wouldn’t sleep, wouldn’t settle, would only take 40ml at a time and I couldn’t even get half of the milk in her she needed I was having to feed her every hour it was exhausting. She’s just been prescribed an AA milk as some of her symptoms have started to creep back in. If it’s just the poo colour then I’d raise it with your GP but I was told by the specialist feeding unit at alderhey it’s due to the iron in the formula :)
@Leah-Shannon oh bless you I’m sorry, that’s horrible 😢 that now makes me think even more she doesn’t have cmpa, because she always finishes a feed, isn’t uncomfortable doing so, sleeps through the night, she’s sicky but I wouldn’t say more than the average baby! And she’s on omeprazole for reflux. It is literally her poo being like that, she does get flare ups on her cheeks though and can sound quite congested, and she’s pooed two days in a row this week which never happens! So I’m even more confused now 😩😂 I’ve also heard this! She’s got a follow up today so I definitely will, thank you x

To be fair my daughters allergy is quite severe.. it was that bad to begin with they thought she needed an operation at alderhey. It could be that your daughters allergy is mild. Let me know how you get on x
@Leah-Shannon oh bless her I’m so sorry, happy to hear you’ve found something that works! Well I saw a health visitor by chance this morning when I went to weigh her, and she said to her she doesn’t think she has a milk allergy of her biggest symptom is the poo, she thinks she would be in much more discomfort. And that green poo doesn’t always mean allergy, my appointment is in an hour so will see what the doctor says x
Hi girls sorry I’m back I need help! So we tried the aptamil pepti for 5 days, poo went back to yellow and normal. So we then tried her back on normal aptamil to see, it’s been since Friday, the poo is still yellow but very runny and mucus has returned, she’s also had an eczema flare up and a rash on both cheeks. Would this seem like a reaction to you? We’re wondering whether to trial her on the milk free again to see so we know, but I don’t want to keep changing her 😩 x
Oh- and she’s also sounded quite wheezy too x
I would say you should’ve kept her on aptamil pepti for a little longer to be sure x
@Latifa oh no. It’s only because I spoke to a health visitor who told me it didn’t sound like she had a milk allergy and we shouldn’t have swapped her to begin with. Now I’m thinking she was wrong. We’re going to trial it again for 2 weeks to see x
We were referred to a paediatrician and she was great, she told me to keep baby on aptamil seeing as he is doing fine on it, I can wean him slowly back onto kendamil or keep him on until we introduce solids. Even though he’s not showing signs of any allergies just best to keep him on pepti, its been almost 2 months on it so its clear to see if its helping or not. If your little one is reacting to the other milk then definitely speak to your gp x
Aw that’s so good, to be honest our gp isn’t great so it’s hard to know what to do! I guess at least this way of her symptoms now disappear we know the milk was the cause of it x
My daughters poo looked like that for about a week after we tried sma comfort. It has reduced lactose in, she was in so much pain and wouldn’t go toilet for 3-4 days and when she did it was an absolute poonado! Do you BF? X
