Owlet sleep sock worth it?

Hi moms and mommas to be! I am expecting my first little one this fall and am building our baby registry. I’ve gotten so many ads about the owlet sleep sock and monitor, and I don’t know how I feel about it. Is it worth it, or just another gimmick we don’t really need that enables us to be helicopter moms?

Following as I’m super curious as well.

I thought about getting it but I talked to a few friends who say it can cause unhealthy obsession. We ended up not even using a monitor until our little guy was just over three months

I couldn’t afford it at the time but we did really consider it and it would’ve said so much anxiety bc of my fear of SIDS. My birthing class instructor recommended it. I’d put one on a baby registry with a thing that they could put money towards it bc it is expensive.

I’ve got one as my sister had one with my nephew. I think if you can afford it then get one as it does give you peace of mind Xx

I got one recently and it doesn’t live up to the hype

Absolutely not! Unless you get one with the oxygen monitor , but I think they discontinued them because they weren’t approved through health dept or something like that. Half the time ours would go off unnecessarily and scare the shit out of me, other times it wouldn’t even register. We used it for a week and then I sold it

I remember looking into Snuza and then a mat that lays under them while sleeping, but it’s been over a year so I can’t remember exactly what all I was looking at. I ended up just never getting sleep or trusting anything because I never bought anything else… so maybe don’t listen to me😂

Personally I think no. If the time comes and there’s a medical reason that you feel the need for extra monitoring then revisit the idea. But by the time my son came home seeing any sort of monitor hooked to him was the last thing I wanted.

Thank you guys for your input!! I am already on the anxious side and managed to stay away from buying my own Doppler 🤣 I think I might just not get the sock unless I feel the need to due to a specific reason once Baby girl is here.

I used it for both of my girls. I find it totally worth it. I'm so worried about SIDS. One of my friends lost her baby to it and now I'm always checking on them. Using the Owlet puts my mind at ease and actually allows me to sleep because I know I wake up when and if the alarm goes off. I have the camera too but don't find it worth the price. The sock is the only thing I would definitely buy again.

I have one and couldn't be without it after I had a scary moment when my baby was 8 weeks old with a silent reflux choking episode where he stopped breathing resulting in a hospital stay. I dread to think what would have happened if I wasn't awake. I bought the owlet the day he came back home and it settled my anxiety totally and I've never had a false alarm xxx

I’ve been told that you shouldn’t buy things like that

I have it and I think it’s brilliant, it gives you peace of mind. My son has spent time in hospital for various surgeries and it’s probably more reliable than the machines they use!

@Hope can you give more info on this pls? My sister is planning on gifting me the full set, but if it’s not worth it, I’d rather she didn’t waste her money on it 🙈

@Andriana yeah! So it doesn’t give you a current oxygen read, it’s an average over 10 minutes. The bpm is kinda a cool feature but if it goes down to a concerning number, it doesn’t go off anyways. The battery says it lasts 16-18 hours but rarely lasts 12 hours through the night. Unless you make putting the sock part of your routine, it’s easy to forget to put it on. It’s really just there to track sleep and they can give you advice about how to fix your baby’s routine.
