Descaler

I have the Tommee tippee advanced steam sterliser and it needs descaling but unsure on what brand to use or what type of descaler and how to do it. It says use white vinegar but it’s stinks and makes the bottles smell funny in my opinion😷what kind of descaler are you all using for your sterilising machines? I’ll attach a photo of the steriliser so you can see which one I’m in about as there isn’t anything online about this specific one just the other Tommee tippee one🤍

I’m using vinegar without any bottle inside. After that I wash all the elements with warm water and ready for a new sterilizing cycle. I have a different brand but looks quite similar.

You can purchase a descaler solution they sell for coffee makers (I use one from Impresa Products off Amazon). But it's honestly way cheaper going the vinegar/citric acid route. In a pinch, I've also used lime/lemon concentrate or True powder diluted with water (basically citric acid that smells better lol). The main thing is to rinse it out a few times after descaling and running a full cycle through without any items inside.

I’ve always used pure lemon juice to descale my sons. Still acidic but you don’t get the awful smell & works just as well if you let it sit for a bit. Preferred using it as I know if there was ever any residue it’s basically natural so wouldn’t do any harm😋

I use these on mine, work fanatically. Just pour onto the metal part, add boiling water and all the scale is gone in 5 mins. Rinse off after

Citric acid. It's the part of lemon juice that works but concentrated and without the sugar in it so no issue with stickiness It comes in granules, you just add a teaspoon to the bottom and add the water, then turn on and let it do it's thing Essentially limescale is just calcium deposits so you need any kind of acid to dissolve it You can get it on Amazon but surprisingly I've found b&q stock it too 😄 https://amzn.eu/d/3rH6R05

I use this one xx Pure-Tek Descaler Liquid, 7 Litre, Limescale Remover for Kettle, Steam Iron, Coffee Machines, Baby Steriliser & Coffee Maker, Cleaner Works with Nespresso Machine, 500ml Concentrate Makes up to 7L https://amzn.eu/d/5hHqoWU

I just use vinegar but I’m on to my second one of these sterilisers as even cleaning it weekly did not stop brown staining. I have read it is a problem with this machine.
