Vanilla extract in hydrolysed/hypoallergenic formula

Has anyone ever used vanilla extract in their little one’s CMP free formula? Our little boy is on aptamil pepti 1 for suspected CMPA. He has been on it 6 weeks and his feeds are getting worse. We’ve been prescribed neocate, not started yet as we’re waiting for the pharmacy to get it in stock, but as he is refusing all feed to the point of needing to get him to sleep to feed him for him to tolerate any, our HV has recommended putting a drop or two of vanilla extract in his bottles. Has anyone done this or been advised of this before? I’ve never heard of anyone doing/suggesting this!

We were recommended to do it, we tried it and it didn’t work. We just had to persevere until he got hungry enough to eat. It took 2-3 days and his feed intake increased. It was very stressful so I feel for you going through the same. The pepti formula is so watery and tastes awful so I found that rather than switch fully straight away even though we knew he most probably had the allergy, we phased out the old formula by doing 5 scoops old 1 scoop new, then 4 scoops old, 2 scoops new and that helped the switch a little. Good luck!

@Steph thanks so much!! It’s been a nightmare, so stressful and he’s had issues with gaining weight because of it which obviously causes a lot of worry 😬 thank you for commenting and for the advice, I really appreciate it!

We used alcohol free vanilla essence, used a clean dropper from a bottle of infacol, did 2 droppers and then slowly weaned him off the vanilla essence. Went with a straight swap as pepti still has milk proteins in it so didn't want to prolong his pain by mixing with old formula.

Can someone plz tell me where you find the alcohol free one my son doesn’t drink as much as he used to on hypoallergenic formula! Not sure if it’s just the taste or what but I wanted to try the vanilla but can’t find the alcohol free one
