I asked the HV/pharmacist and they told me it can’t cause constipation xx
No idea on your question but… Constipation is not, not pooping. How often they poo can be once in 7 days, or 7 times in one day. This would be normal so long as your baby is happy and well. Constipation is when your babies poo is hard and dry, making it difficult to poo. Number of poos is not critical at this age but if your baby seems to have pain when trying to poo or has a very hard, dry poo, then I would reach out for advice from HV.
Thank you lovely ladies for sharing the info 🤗🤗🤗
Ebf babies don't get constipated, it's normal for them to go up to 10 days without a poo and also totally normal do 10 a day. Neither of mine where in anyway regular until they started solids. Saying that I have never given either of them infacol and didn't give them anything other than breastmilk until they started on solids as my LC advised not even cooled boiled water as anything other that bm can disrupt their gut biome. Although I would definitely say don't worry, but you could try tummy massage to get the bowels moving, worked 9/10 times for us and they also love it (once they are used to it that is, it takes a few times and singing during helps)
Just wondering why you are giving them infacol if they are EBF? I thought it was to help with gas that can be mostly caused by being bottle fed? Is there another benefit to it?
Breast feed babies do also get air trapped this is what i have learnt from the health advisor. Some days he cries like anything and we fail to know the cause. From last 3 days he is fine after having infacol But it is just today he didn’t poop though he was putting pressure to poop and making his face red but it didn’t happen. Thats why i was lil worried
And we all know the health care system here. Blessed to have this group and guidance of all u lovely ladies
And also he is spitting a lot of milk
@Peanut Mom leaving baby in the position they fed in for a while helps them bring up burps themselves, then you can move them to burp them or even a bit of tummy time can put gentle pressure on the belly and help get any air up. You could also check your babies latch if there are any breastfeeding groups near you or ask to see a lactation consultant. My second was very windy and spat up a lot, my oldest was just normal milk spit up but my second was like curdled cheese milk so I took him to a chiropractor who gave him some adjustments which helped immediately, cranial osteopath can do the same, they can be misaligned from birth process and that can cause issues. Bicycle legs and gentle tummy massage should help with the poos if baby is struggling. Also look up oprah baby language on YouTube and you may be able to understand why baby is crying, it's fascinating!
@Molly : amazing, a lot of info i got from you. Thank you so much. It’s great to know about chiropractic and breastfeeding group which I didn’t know before. 🤗🤗
Also it does have on the leaflet inside that it can cause constipation & other problems 🙂
@Steph - thanks alot! I just saw it does say that. I have also heard about Gripe water. It does help too
@Steph trapped wind is not constipation and ebf babies cannot get constipated, look into it, I was given this info from an IBCLC. They also should not be given anything other than breastmilk as it effects their gut biome so all medicine should be given via mother until on solid food. If baby is having digestive issues you can adjust your diet and see if that helps them. Colic is babies gut developing but not all babies get it and the cleaner your diet the less likely your baby will get colic. Heard great things about the Friday windpasser though!
@Chloe breastfed babies can get gas too!

@Steph so that link doesn't actually say that ebf babies get constipated. Anything you find about constipation in breastfed babies will talk about solid foods because until baby is on solids or formula they physically can't get constipated. Honestly, speak to an IBCLC. Ebf babies a cannot get constipated. Speak to a medical professional who is trained in breastfeeding and ask them. Constipation is about the consistency of poo, not frequency or ease of passing stool.
@Molly I have no idea what your problem is but you need to calm down. It’s not me asking the question. The poor lass just asked for some advice and i’ve given her it 🤷🏼♀️ She asked if Infacol give babies constipation and it does. EBF babies CAN get constipated if wind is trapped for awhile - not hard pellets just poo built up where they can’t push it out them selves. I know this because I spoke to a medical professional aka A DOCTOR AND MY MIDWIFE. Also on the NHS link I put on it does say that EBF babies RARELY gets constipated not that it dosn’t happen. @Peanut Mom if your worried please speak to a DR instead coz people seem to think they are DRs and give wrong advice x
I haven’t found that it cause’s constipation. It’s more likely to be coincidence
