@Rebecca hi. Thanks for answering. Sorry I should of put this in my original message, I tried him on infacol and at one point gripe water too. I stopped giving him these as he started with reflux. I wasn’t sure if the infacol was adding to the reflux as it is quite acidic and strong flavoured. I now have him on infant gaviscon which has been prescribed by our GP. Maybe I should add infacol back in now he is on the gaviscon to help burp him better. I wasn’t sure if both could be taken at the same time. Thanks.
My little girl does this too and roots so I thought it was because she wanted to carry on the feed but I’ve actually found that she does this because she has wind as once she’s burped she usually stops! I used to (and sometimes still do) struggle burping her she seemed to only do it for my partner and not me which was frustrating because he’s out at work all day so I watched how he did it and she’s been better since so when I hold her I always try and make sure she’s sat with her back straight then I start gently rubbing big circles on her back, then with a bit more pressure I rub up and down and sort of jiggle her at the same time and then I pat if none of that brings anything up, and just repeat this a few times. If I’m struggling I find if I put my hands on her tummy and back and pull as if I was lifting her this seems to stretch everything out and maybe release anything that’s trapped and then wind as normal. Hope you find something that helps, these babies need a guidebook🤣 x
Infancol for bursting and gripe water for the wind (non alcohol containing) biogaia also do a probiotic specifically for colic. All three of these have helped our little guy soo much. I also cut out cows milk, garlic and onion and citrus and this has helped immensely
@Jodie thank you. That makes sense, maybe it is because he is uncomfortable too during the feed. I will give what you say a go. If only they did come with manuals. Would make our lives a lot easier 😊
You can also try putting her down for two minutes then picking her up for one minute - this helps the bubbles to rise and she will pass the burp herself
So my pediatrician told me to slow down my son's feeding when he went through this. I would give him I think it was 5oz and at a half an oz I would take the bottle out to give him a break and then at the 1oz I would try to burp him. He was IMPOSSIBLE to burp too. I also switched him to Similac Soy Isomil and that helped tremendously as it is supposed to help with gas and fussiness. My husband and I tried the gripe water and the gas drops and the gripe water worked 1 time. He is now almost 6 months old and he burps on his own, so this doesn't last forever! I know it feels like it's going to!!
I've been doing this since my boy was born and he's 13 weeks. He's got better at burping, but does exactly the same and has fought me, his dad and Grandma. He's a greedy boy. We pace feed so he doesn't take too much air in and does a little burp. That will be about 40ml. If we give him too much he throws up a lot and not just spit up. Best technique I've found for burping is to either sit him up on my knee and hold him straight and eventually one comes up naturally and we pat a bit, or over the shoulder with both his arms over. Failing that infacol before every feed. My boy just cries but as soon as he burps he's back on his bottle. Sometimes they just cry but probably crying because of the wind. Definitely get some infacol, it really helps Xx
We used dentinox in his bottles everytime which really worked, we also changed his formula to a comfort milk and gave him gripe water after feeds where he was particularly uncomfortable and it seemed to work xx
Our little girl started doing this as well when she was around 7/8 weeks old, we tried everything when it came to drops etc but the only thing that’s worked is changing her milk to SMA Comfort from the normal milk which has a lower lactose content and is specifically for colic and constipation, she’s a completely different baby now and we leave her to have the bottle until she’s had enough before burping and that’s been fine!
Hello Amazing Momma ❤️ Had this too around 3-4 weeks. And i have read that trying to burp them few minutes “BEFORE” the due feed to release some gas left, and it did work for my LO. by Holding them upright and then with your cupped hand tap her back strong enough from lower back and up covering all her back till you get a burp, or you can limit it atleast 3-5 mins as Sometimes you wont get a burp or fart. but i notice that after the next feed, my LO easily burped ❤️ Hope it will work for your LO too. I didnt want to give any medications for my baby as much as possible (just a personal choice) so i explored what i can do. ❤️
Hey! We had this issue with our little girl and started to give her infacol- you give that before the feed and we try to burp between every ounce she drinks. I found it was worse the more she drank so burping between every ounce was just small burps rather than one big one that they would have trouble with. Infacol is good for breaking down the large air bubbles!
