Neocate/carobel

These are two separate things but has anyone been prescribed neocate and found it helped reflux? My little girls been on nutramigen for a couple of months and her symptoms/fussiness/straining/sick episodes has returned so we were prescribed neocate to cut out cows milk protein entirely. It's thinner than neocate so I'm worried about it making her reflux worse again. Separately though, does anyone know of any other reflux thickeners other than carobel? She reacts to carob bean gum so I can't use carobel or anti reflux milk. Gaviscon doesnt help her reflux symptoms at all.

I’ve found it’s made my sons spit up worse but he had the symptoms of milk allergies as yours and it’s helped in my case

@Shannon so neocate has made the spit up worse? But straining and discomfort improved? I just gave her her second bottle of neocate and she had the 'sick-ups' not long after:( not projectile vomiting, just very spit up-y

@Megan how long has she been on it? It took my son about a week to fully notice a change and with the ‘sick-ups’ if they continue maybe ask for a milk thickener and see if that helps

@Shannon I've only tried her with two bottles so far so I'm going to persevere on! The only thickener I know of is carobel which she reacts to😅 are you using anything for reflux or just neocate unthickened?

@Megan I’m currently waiting for a doctors appointment to discuss thickening it and not really just keeping him upright and laid at an angle (not really working to well). What reaction she is having with carobel?

@Shannon extreme diarrhea and really bad stomach pains (I can tell by the way she screams and lifts her legs and is really uncomfortable). I re-trialed the carobel to see if it was definitely that which was causing those symptoms and it was because they started again from the first bottle!

@Megan I don’t know how feasible this is with how bad her reflux is. But maybe try without it for a few days to allow her body to adjust to the neocate without added components

It takes about 21 days for a cow protein to completely leave the body

I know this post is a bit old but just come across it - we use magic mix to thicken our baby’s neocate as she also can’t tolerate Carobel. The GP may prescribe it but we order it online. It was recommended by our paediatrician. Works a treat!
