Baby constipated > drinking cow and gate formula

Hey, My son Is a week old and has been drinking cow and gate first milk he was starting off okay and was pooing regular would be like 2-3 a day. As the week has progress his been only pooing once or nothing at all I feel that he is constipated. I've done all the little things like bicycle leg movements, massaging the tummy, making sure he's winded properly etc. Even given him water inbetween feeds I've been successful two times where he's just let it all out but today not so much. I'm worried that it's the milk causing this

It's common for formula babies to go a week without pooping it's completely normal

Please be careful with water though their bodies aren't equipped to digest it and you can cause water intoxication which can lead to some nasty side effects

Is baby struggling pooping is baby’s poo hard or pebbles? I was advised to give 1oz max inbetween feeds of cooled boiled water My little was on cow and gate and we switched him too aptimil made a massive difference it could be baby isn’t taking to cow and gate. Can take a week for baby to adjust to change of milk too

My little girl was on cow and gate & was constipated she’s now 6 weeks old, I was advised to take her off it

Why are you giving them cow milk?

@Mykela it’s cow and gate a brand of formula

We used aptamil comfort for both our kids who struggled with constipation. It was a life saver

I’m having literally the exact same issue! My girl is 1 week old On cow and gate And today has been constipated Thankfully through bicycle legs / yoga legs / tummy massage I have managed to shift it and we had a poonarmi earlier this evening. I am in two minds whether to keep her on it or move her to another feed. Or could this just be a one off? Where do you draw the line? Help!

I’ve got my little one on kendamil and it’s been brilliant, when he’s been constipated for a day or 2 I’ve gave colostrum morning and night and the next day he’s emptied, if you expressed and froze it try that maybe, it’s worked for me so far, baby boy is 3 weeks old

Thank you guys alot of advice there, @Kayleigh his poo is completely normal like creamy texture looks like chicken korma 😬 not hard at all. @YazmynJade he doesn't take a full oz of it anyways he'll take like 2 sips I try not to give him it either I do the bicycle kicks and massage the tummy more I have been told that its normal and is like you said them adjusting to the milk. @Mykela thank god someone else commented that it's the brand name I'm not that stupid to give my newborn cows milk. I don't mean to sound rude or anything but I wouldn't do that to my son. @Georgia Cummings I'd keep her on it if she's still having issues and the Poo starts to become hard I'd probably take her off that's what I'm going to do with my son. But again if you would feel better taking her off then by all means just do what you think is right x @Kim I havent expressed nothing 😒 wasn't able to get a breast pump I've only just had my milk come through but they're starting to go down now so maybe too late now x

@Lucy I hand expressed and I still hand express just now, only the smallest amount I get as I don’t pump either but warm shower before hand seems to help x

@Lucy aw when my little boy was on it he was struggling and had like pebble poo it could just be his tummy getting used to the milk as can take time for them to adjust. Have you tried the pre-made milk? I found that made him poop no idea why but soemthing in them that can make them poop if he hadn’t been for a few days we’d just warm a pre-made bottle up Love the poop description 😂 Also on your Brest feeding comment I’m pretty sure if you were too try express you’d get something even trying now if you think ur milk is going down if you were to latch baby and he took to it your body would just assume your breast feeding now x

@Kayleigh he started on the premade bottle and I was told by the hospital that they actually contain a Laxative so that would explain why he pooped. I tried breastfeeding him but he weren't having it, wouldn't latch on at all I think i may try him again but he just won't latch. X

@Lucy yes that’s it I couldn’t remember 😂 brilliant way to get baby to go. You could even try pumping if it’s something you wanted to try again I just formula fed so I can’t give any tips x

@Lucy I literally ran to Asda tonight and bought SMA as that’s what she was on in hospital for two days. I’m still producing colostrum but not milk anymore 🙄 I’ve tried expressing but no milk anymore. Think I’ll try give her some colostrum if that helps. X
